Harry & Meghan ‘Could Finally File For Divorce’ as Their ‘Deeply Emotional’ Dispute ‘Threatens to Tear Them Apart’—They’re ‘Truly Broken’

Things are reportedly tense between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle— to the point where it’s allegedly putting their marriage on the line.

ICYMI, Harry’s security in the UK is set to be reinstated after a fierce legal battle. However, with the potential for Harry to relocate his family back to his home country, the move isn’t sitting well with Meghan. A source told Radar Online that there have been arguments that are “deeply emotional” and the dispute “threatens to tear them apart – geographically and emotionally.”+

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Explain Staying "Present" With Their Kids

“The tension between them isn’t rooted in a breakdown of affection or commitment,” the insider said.

Back in May, Harry expressed his willingness to reconcile with his father due to his cancer diagnosis. The sentiment has fueled his drive to visit the UK more often. “It’s driven by two very different anxieties pulling them in opposite directions,” a source told the site. “Harry has become increasingly fixated on the idea of being back in Britain more often. He brings it up repeatedly, conscious of his father’s declining health and feeling that opportunities for reconciliation are slipping away. In his mind, the coming year carries a real sense of urgency and consequence. He and Meghan are broken in a lot of ways, and this drive to return to Britain could truly break them.”

However, for Meghan, it’s bringing up moments that she isn’t fond of. “For her, the U.K. is bound up with some of the most stressful and painful periods of her life,” the insider claimed. “The idea of returning triggers memories of constant scrutiny and emotional strain, and she is deeply resistant to being drawn back into that atmosphere. There is real frustration that something she believed was firmly in the past has once again become such a central and unavoidable point of contention in their lives.”

Harry’s new security update opens up the gates of the possibility that they could settle back in Britain. “His sense of yearning has grown stronger as he looks back on the years he has largely spent apart from his father,” a palace source claimed. “There is a deep regret about missed time and conversations, and he views spending more time in the U.K. as a way to repair some of that emotional distance. In his mind, going back is not just practical, but a chance to heal old wounds before it is too late.”

Meghan’s up to put up a fight since they have opposing views when it comes to raising their children: Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4. “Her instinct is to shield both herself and the children from experiences she worries could reopen painful chapters,” a source added. “Harry, on the other hand, feels strongly that their children should grow up understanding where he comes from and having a real relationship with their grandfather. Meghan’s hesitation comes from a fear of what returning to Britain might demand of her personally and the emotional toll it could take.”

Nonetheless, it’s an argument that will play well into 2026. “Harry is caught in an agonizing position, pulled between his commitment to his wife and children and a powerful sense of unfinished business from his earlier life,” one source said. “If neither of them is willing or able to compromise, there is a real concern among those close to them that this single, unresolved question could evolve into the breaking point for their relationship, which could see them finally file for divorce this year.”

Meghan Markle recently opened up about her relationship with Harry in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, and it seems like there are no problems on the surface. “He loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn’t,” she told the publication. “No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he’s always going to make sure that he has my back.” With Harry, Meghan explains, “you have someone who just has this childlike wonder and playfulness. I was so drawn to that, and he brought that out in me. That’s translated into every part of our life. Even in business, I want us to play and have fun and explore and be creative.”

Why King Charles & Prince Harry Share ‘No Desire’ for a Warm Family Reunion Right Now

Prince Harry’s fight against the publisher of the Daily Mail is bringing him back to the U.K. at the end of January, but it doesn’t appear that a father-son reunion is in the works.

The BBC confirmed the news that the Duke of Sussex will be strictly focused on his civil case when he returns to his home country, but a face-to-face meeting with King Charles III is not on the agenda. This situation isn’t a one-sided affair either, according to Rob Shuter’s Substack, it seems that the family members aren’t rushing to see each other right now.

“Charles is in complete control. If he wanted a father-son reunion, it would happen. There’s just no desire on either side right now,” a source told Shuter. A second palace insider agreed that it was a “mutual choice” and “a sit-down isn’t in the cards” at this time.

The talk of a reunion likely won’t die down in 2026, though. Per The Sun, King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to make a visit to see Donald Trump in April in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday. That scheduled trip will probably ignite the reconciliation rumors again, in hopes that the monarch will visit his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, in California.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected at the White House celebrations in July as a part of their soft diplomacy mission to “keep Donald Trump sweet,” per The Independent. Even with their visit, royal fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a William-Harry reunion.

Shuter is very clear that there is “zero chance” that the brothers will meet up during Harry’s January visit or the Wales’ July trip to the U.S. There is no relationship there, and neither of them wants to reconcile — at least right now.

King Charles and Prince Harry's Relationship Is As Strained as Ever

Prince Harry is the one who has been pushing for a softening in the feud, telling the BBC in May 2025, “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has” in reference to his father’s cancer battle.

He was able to orchestrate a short meeting with his dad in September 2025 while he was in the U.K. for the annual WellChild Awards. Vanity Fair described the meeting as “brief but significant,” and on King Charles’ terms.

“Harry had a meeting in London this morning and then made sure he kept his schedule completely clear so that he could see his father at a moment’s notice,” Charlotte Griffiths, editor at large at The Mail on Sunday, told the media outlet. “It was a last-minute diary plan—it wasn’t in Harry’s diary—but perhaps that’s because he was nervous about leaks. He was prepared to drop everything to see his father, and he let that be known to the palace.”

Prince Harry Puts King Charles in Tough Spot With Invictus Games Invite — Expert

Prince Harry is reportedly planning to invite King Charles to the 2026 Invictus Games. A royal expert recently revealed that the Duke of Sussex would allegedly send the invitation as his way of offering an olive branch to his father and the royal family. However, his move could reportedly put the monarch in a tough spot.

For those unfamiliar, rumors of a father-son reconciliation have been circulating since last year. The speculation escalated after the duo met in September 2025 during Harry’s UK visit.

Prince Harry’s ‘trump card’ puts King Charles in tough spot with Prince William — expert

Prince Harry and King Charles might reunite at The Invictus Games 2027 in Birmingham, U.K. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Express that the duke’s invite would reportedly be his “trump card,” but might put his father in a tough spot. The ceremony is said to be a “well-regarded charity” event, and rejecting an invitation to its opening might not look good.

“However, this invitation places the King in an extremely difficult position. He is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Invictus is a major military charity,” Fitzwilliams explained. He elaborated that the “Windsors have a deep sense of duty.” Due to this, people would expect King Charles to accept the invitation, no matter who sent it.

Furthermore, the expert listed more reasons why Harry’s invitation would make things complicated for his father. Reportedly, the dates might create scheduling issues as the closing ceremony would be just a week before Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday. Moreover, Fitzwilliams claimed that King Charles will not decide without consulting Prince William.

“On the other hand, the future of the monarchy lies with the Waleses and their family. The brothers have reportedly not spoken in over three years,” he said. Although the 77-year-old would seemingly like to reconcile to see Harry’s kids, it would be “unlikely” for the king to do something that “William strongly opposed.”

In September 2025, King Charles and Prince Harry reunited for a “private tea” at Clarence House in London, suggesting their estrangement had come to an end. Now, royal sources are claiming that the Duke of Sussex wishes to “fulfill a dream” alongside The King, which could “end” the royal rift, once and for all.

The Invictus Games is set to take place in Birmingham in the U.K. in 2027. A source recently told the Sun, “Prince Harry desperately wants Charles at Invictus—and he wants him to open the games alongside him.”

The source further alleged, “Harry wants it to happen both for the games, and for their relationship. It’s his dream to have his father by his side.” According to the insider, Prince Harry hopes to have “Charles involved in the opening ceremony,” noting, “The games represent a cause close to both’s hearts.”

According to royal sources, the timing might work out for a proper reunion between Prince Harry and members of the Royal Family. “They appear to want a reconciliation and the games are a perfect opportunity for them to work alongside each other,” an insider told the publication. “The sight of them on stage when it opens would be heart-warming and in the spirit of the occasion.”

The insider also suggested that individuals planning the Invictus Games have become “convinced it will happen.” As a result, the Invictus Games team is allegedly “planning for Charles to play a role in the opening ceremony.”

Of course, only time will tell whether The King intends to become involved in the Invictus Games in 2027. Still, it appears as though Prince Harry is allegedly hopeful for a public Royal Family reunion with his father.

Is Prince Harry Calling Charles’ Bluff With Invictus Games ‘Olive Branch’?

Friends and allies of King Charles and Prince William have been caught off guard by Prince Harry’s latest media campaign: an astonishing attempt to get the King to open Harry’s Invictus Games event in the United Kingdom next year.

The story was first leaked to British tabloid The Sun, framed as a “MAJOR olive branch” opportunity for Charles. The Royalist has confirmed it to be essentially true with sources in Harry’s camp.

While it is a long way from a done deal, there is a very real possibility that Charles might actually be considering the invitation, sources tell The Royalist—much to the chagrin of William.

The story is an interesting illustration of the larger patterns and interfamilial conflicts that are destabilizing the monarchy at the moment: The gulf between the King and his heir on a key matter of policy (what to do about Harry) as well as the King’s failure to communicate clearly to his public where he stands on the matter (of what to do about Harry).

“Prince Harry desperately wants Charles at Invictus—and he wants him to open the Games alongside him,” the source told The Sun. “Harry wants it to happen both for the Games, and for their relationship. It’s his dream to have his father by his side.”

“The Games represent a cause close to both’s hearts,” they continued. “The Games are a perfect opportunity for them to work alongside each other… The sight of them on stage when it opens would be heart-warming and in the spirit of the occasion.”

The story has caused some on the King’s side to bristle at what they see as an attempt to force Charles into attending the Games—and lending Harry the stamp of legitimacy. But the situation is undeniably nuanced by the fact that the King has shown remarkable indulgence toward his younger son, in defiance of his heir’s clearly stated wishes.

Friends of William want the King’s team to rebut the invitation before it takes legs, and hope to see scathing, skeptical responses sprinkled into media briefings in the coming days. But they are nervous that Charles will indeed entertain the idea as part of a broader goal of reconciling with Harry and spending time with his Sussex grandchildren.

Friends of the King and Queen told The Royalist that any attempt “to emotionally manipulate Charles will fail.” They pointed to the fact that he is “flat-out refusing” to see Harry when he will be in London in the coming weeks for the opening day of his lawsuit against Associated Newspapers as evidence of the king’s “steel” on the matter.

However, they notably declined to outright dismiss the possibility that Charles could appear at next year’s Invictus Games.

Indeed, one said: “The King has always made it very clear that he loves both his sons and of course he wants to be reconciled with Harry. It would be a source of great joy to him if trust could improve sufficiently to normalize the relationship.”

Of course, one of the King’s biggest problems here is hopelessly mixed messages—Charles’ position vis-a-vis Harry has always suffered from being both opaque and contradictory.

In Spare, Harry’s most corrosive charge against his father and stepmother was of emotional neglect. He described a royal household in which he was sacrificed to the press in order to protect and rehabilitate Charles and Camilla’s reputations during the early 2000s. Harry’s sense of betrayal is explicit: the damage done to him, he says, was the price paid for making their own lives easier.

His language is stark: he describes his stepmother as “dangerous,” while Charles is portrayed as weak, emotionally distant and aware of the harm being done but unwilling to intervene if it threatened his own priorities.

One of Charles’ best friends, Nicholas Soames, subsequently accused Harry of behavior of “the cruelest” kind toward his father in the memoir: “I can’t put myself in the position where my own son, if he did something like that to me…it would just be the cruelest thing,” Soames said in a radio interview. “Put oneself in his position. It was just painful beyond words.”

Charles has seemed to bounce ever since between attempts to cut off his son and to try to make up with him.

In a recent Daily Mail report, sources on the King’s side said that a proper reconciliation could not happen without an apology from Harry to the King and the wider royal family for the “appalling and derogatory” comments he made in Spare.

It felt like an attempt to recalibrate after what many inside the palace now privately concede was the costly misstep of meeting Harry last autumn. (Immediately after that meeting, Harry repaid his father’s indulgence by doubling down on his memoirtelling a journalist he didn’t regret the scathing attacks he launched on his family in the book. He then accused his father’s staff of trying to “sabotage” their relationship.)

Indeed, there is no doubt that any decision to extend an olive branch to a son who has spent years monetizing attacks on the institution his father embodies will go down badly with much of the British public.

Many think that such behavior makes Charles look weak, indulgent, and out of touch with the anger Harry has provoked by accusing the monarchy of a culture of cruelty, racism, and emotional neglect.

Friends of William are concerned that Charles is once again allowing the Sussex camp to set the narrative. Having been encouraged by the Daily Mail’s report of the King’s hardened position, which of course aligns more closely with William’s uncompromising (and extraordinarily popular) stance, they say that Charles now has to effectively pick a side..

Kate Reportedly ‘Left Absolutely Devastated’ by William’s ‘Brutal’ Decision—She Was ‘Distraught’

Prince William's devastating Christmas decision left Kate in 'floods of tears' | Edinburgh Live

Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s marriage is the strongest it’s ever been, but the couple once almost didn’t make it after their temporary breakup in 2007.

William and Kate met as freshmen at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 2001 and started dating around late 2002. They were together for almost five years before reports William broke up with Kate in 2007. While news of their split didn’t break until April 2007, royal author Robert Jobson claimed in her book, Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, that the couple broke up just before New Year’s Eve 2006, which they planned to spend with Kate’s family in Dundee. However, according to the book, William called Kate just before New Year’s to break up with her, claiming that they needed “breathing room” to “find our own path.”

According to Jobson, the call — during which William also told Kate that he couldn’t promise her marriage — left Kate “distraught,” with her mother, Carole Middleton, taking her to Dublin to recover. “Kate believed the relationship was heading toward marriage, so the phone call felt brutal and final. It knocked her confidence and left her questioning whether she had been strung along,” a source told Jobson.

Another source added, “It was one of the most painful moments of her life, and for a while it seemed impossible they would ever find their way back to each other. It left her absolutely devastated.”

Royal author Katie Nicholl also wrote in her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, about the breakup, and how William was both advised by his father, King Charles, and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to not make any rash decisions about his relationship. “William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything,” Nicholl wrote. A source told the author, “William’s brutal call shook Kate to the core.”

According to Jobson, it took less than two months before William started to miss Kate, though he feared she wouldn’t take him back. They reunited by chance at a mutual friend’s costume party, and the “chemistry between William and Catherine did the rest,” according to Jobson. They got together soon after, and three years later, the couple announced their engagement, with Kate receiving the sapphire ring once worn by William’s late mother, Princess Diana.

The information on William and Kate’s breakup also comes amid the strongest stage in their relationship after Kate’s cancer battle, which “rekindled” her marriage to William. “There were ongoing rumors at one time that the marriage between William and Kate may not have been as blissful as publicly portrayed,” former royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News in January. “William has been known for his outbursts and Kate has found ways of calming the situation down but personally, I feel after the cancer diagnosis and the threat of losing her, the closeness was rekindled.”
