In August, Sandra Bullock faced a deeply personal tragedy with the loss of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who passed away at the age of 57. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his family, who revealed that he had been privately battling ALS, a progressive motor neuron disease, for several years.
The diagnosis had been kept largely out of the public eye, allowing Bryan to live his final years with dignity and privacy — something both he and Sandra valued deeply. For those close to them, the loss was not only sudden but profoundly emotional, leaving behind a sense of grief that words can hardly capture.

Sandra and Bryan shared a relationship built on quiet strength, mutual respect, and deep love. Unlike many high-profile couples, they chose to keep their life together mostly private, focusing on family, meaningful moments, and the bond they created away from the spotlight.

In the wake of his passing, memories of their time together became even more precious.
From everyday moments to shared milestones, those memories now serve as a source of comfort — reminders of a love that was genuine and lasting. Friends and loved ones have spoken about Bryan’s kindness, calm nature, and the warmth he brought into every room, qualities that made him deeply cherished by those who knew him.
For Sandra, the loss has been life-changing.
Grief brings with it a wave of emotions — sorrow, reflection, and the challenge of moving forward without someone who was such an important part of her life. Yet, even in the midst of that pain, she has found strength in the support of family, close friends, and the love they shared.
Bryan’s legacy continues to live on — not through fame, but through the impact he had on people’s lives.
His spirit, his kindness, and the way he loved so deeply remain a guiding light during a time of darkness. Those who knew him carry forward his memory, honoring the quiet but powerful presence he had in their lives.
As Sandra navigates this difficult chapter, she does so with resilience and grace.
Her journey is a reminder that even in the face of profound loss, love does not disappear — it transforms into memory, into strength, and into the courage to keep going.
And in that way, Bryan Randall’s presence remains —
not gone, but forever remembered.

Bullock’s return to work kicked off in a big way at the Tuesday, April 14 CinemaCon presentation of Warner Bros.’ slate of upcoming movies, which includes Practical Magic 2 (in theaters Sept. 11). The long-awaited sequel to 1998’s Bullock and Nicole Kidman-starring hit marks the Blind Side Oscar winner’s first onscreen credit since 2022’s Bullet Train.
At the Las Vegas event, Bullock appeared in a bold red suit alongside Kidman, 58, teasing details about the movie. That same day, she broke years of social media silence with a buzzy Instagram debut. “Midnight somewhere…” she captioned a video from the set of Practical Magic 2, showing a margarita pitcher in reference to the original film’s memorable “midnight margaritas” scene.
“She has worked on this project for the last few years in order to get it made as a producer and as an actor and she’s having fun with the entire process,” the source tells PEOPLE.

Sandra Bullock Causes Stir After Joining Social Media at 61
‘Miss Congeniality’ star Sandra Bullock officially launched her Instagram account on April 14, attracting more than 4 million followers within a single day.

After years of steadfastly refusing to join Instagram, Sandra Bullock surprised fans by creating an account and sharing her first post—a video of an automatic blender whipping up a margarita—on Tuesday evening. “Midnight Margaritas,” Sandra captioned, referencing a memorable scene from her 1998 film Practical Magic.
Sandra Bullock’s debut immediately received support from friends across the entertainment industry. Many fellow artists, including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, Lily Collins, and Sarah Paulson, expressed their excitement over her joining the platform.
Not only that, the actress was quick to follow her friends and leave several humorous comments under old posts by Jennifer Aniston and Channing Tatum.
Shortly thereafter, Jennifer Aniston celebrated the news that her close friend finally had an Instagram account. “Someone we all love very much just joined Instagram,” Jen wrote on her Story accompanied by a heart emoji. In the next Story, Jen posted a selfie with Sandra while quoting a classic line from the first episode of the series Friends (1994): “It sucks! But you’re gonna love it…”

Last year, in an interview with People, Sandra Bullock still maintained that she did not participate in any social media, while simultaneously condemning accounts impersonating her.
Regarding her initial reason for not wanting to use social media, she once shared with InStyle in 2018: “Oh god, if I have a glass of rosé, I’ll start talking nonsense.”
Nevertheless, Sandra admitted she was “not oblivious” to the online world, as she would peek at the accounts of friends and relatives. The actress also previously stated she would create an account whenever her children started using social media. “When my kids use it, I will know how to as well. I don’t want to be naive. I’ll get on there and troll my friends,” Sandra said.
Sandra Bullock has two adopted children, Louis (16) and Laila (12). She lived privately for a long period while caring for her boyfriend—photographer Bryan Randall—who suffered from a serious illness before passing away in 2023.

This summer, after a four-year absence, she returns to the big screen with the romantic fantasy film Practical Magic 2, starring alongside Nicole Kidman while also serving as a producer.
Sandra Bullock’s Complete Relationship History Includes So Many Familiar Faces
She’s reportedly “spent a lot of time healing” following the death of her partner Bryan Randall.
andra Bullock is having a big week, y’all! She joined Instagram, she hit CinemaCon with Nicole Kidman to tease Practical Magic 2, and according to an April 16 report from People, she’s back and better than ever.
“After everything she went through with Bryan, she needed time to care for herself,” said the insider, alluding to Sandy’s late partner Bryan Randall, who died following a three-year battle with ALS in August 2023.
The source added, “She spent a lot of time healing, being with her kids and being at home. She needed to ensure that she and her kids were in the best possible place for her to go back to work.”
While Bryan was Sandra’s longest and most significant relationship, now seems like a good time to take a look back on her dating history—including with celebs like Tate Donovan and Ryan Gosling (IKR, who knew?).
Jump to:
- Tate Donovan: 1990 to 1994
- Troy Aikman: 1995
- Matthew McConaughey: 1996 to 1998
- Bob Schneider: 1999 to 2001
- Ryan Gosling: 2002 to 2003
- Jesse James: 2003 to 2010

- Bryan Randall: 2015 to 2023
Tate Donovan: 1990 to 1994
“I adored Tate so much,” Sandra told Vanity Fair about a year after they parted ways. “It’s like they say, there’s one person in your life, and Tate and I are closer than any two people I’ve ever experienced in my life. There’s nobody that means more to me, and I know for a fact that I mean the most to him in that certain way.”
Troy Aikman: 1995
Sandra and Troy (who played for the Dallas Cowboys) were so low-key, we wouldn’t even know they’d dated if it weren’t for—unsubstantiated!—tabloid rumors that they had a reunion in 2015.
Matthew McConaughey: 1996 to 1998
Bob Schneider: 1999 to 2001
It was short. It was sweet. And it was very chill. As Sandra told Cinema.com in 2000, “As celebrities go, Bob and I have a very low-key relationship. It’s something I learned through trial and error.”
Ryan Gosling: 2002 to 2003
Jesse James: 2003 to 2010
Sandra and Jesse met when he was filming Monster Garage, and they got married in 2005. Annnnnd then they split after multiple women came forward and claimed they’d had affairs with Jesse. He later said in an interview with the Daily Mail, “Yeah, I did cheat on my wife, yeah. I stood up and took accountability for it and apologized. And that’s end of story.”
Chris Evans (Maybe): 2014
Bryan Randall: 2015 to 2023
Sandra met Bryan in 2015 and their relationship was pretty private. But Sandra opened up about Bryan a few times—including in 2021 when she told Red Table Talk, “He’s the example that I would want my children to have. I have a partner who’s very Christian and there are two different ways of looking at things. I don’t always agree with him, and he doesn’t always agree with me. But he is an example even when I don’t agree with him.…We’re saying it differently but we mean the exact same thing.”
Bryan sadly died in 2023 after a private battle with ALS. A source later told People that Sandra’s friends “gave her the support that she needed both during his illness and afterward. She is grateful for all the love. Everyone helped to lift her up after Bryan passed.”
Just about a year after his death, a source even told Us Weekly that Sandra is “open to the possibility” of dating in the future, but for now, she’s “healing slowly, keeping Bryan’s memory alive and focusing on her children.”
