Lamar Odom’s Current Health Revealed After He Almost Died from 12 Strokes & Six Heart Attacks Following His Overdose

Is he okay?

Sometimes, the things that stick to you about a person are the things that have been reported in the press. And often, those are big things, either good or bad. For Lamar Odom, much of what we know comes from his NBA career, his marriage to Khloe Kardashian, and their subsequent divorce. That and Odom’s struggles with drugs and his subsequent health issues.

But where is Odom these days? Is he okay? Well, he’s apparently taking some steps towards that goal. According to his manager, Gina Rodriguez, the former NBA star has reportedly entered a 30-day program at iRely Recovery in Los Angeles over a month ago. TMZ was first to report the news.

Rodriguez revealed that Odom decided to seek treatment specifically for marijuana use. “After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with,” Rodriguez explained, adding that the former NBA star made the “personal decision” to enter treatment to “reset and focus on his health.”

“Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy, positive way,” Rodriguez added, adding that he is taking “full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his wellbeing.”

It comes after Odom was arrested on Saturday, January 17, and charged with driving under the influence and two traffic violations. Odom has, in the past, been very open about his past drug use. He examines that again in Netflix’s Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, where he discusses how a near-fatal overdose left him in a coma. The show is now streaming on Netflix.

Odom collapsed at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada in 2015, was hospitalized for almost three months, and family members were even told to prepare for the worse. During that time, Odom suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks.

“When I woke up (from a coma ten years ago), the doctors told me I’d probably never walk and talk again,” he told USA TODAY. “So, us having this conversation is a win.”

“All of my doctors say I’m like a walking miracle because it’s, like, medically impossible for somebody to survive 12 strokes and six heart attacks while in a coma,” Odom explained. “And so I just take it day by day, and I’m more than grateful for life.”

In his 2019 memoir Darkness to Light, Odom wrote, “My heart stopped twice,” he recounted. “I had twelve seizures and six strokes. My lungs collapsed and my kidneys ruptured. I was on life support. Everyone I’d ever loved was looking at me through bleary eyes.”

“[The overdose] made me realize I couldn’t live the way I’d been living,” he added.

Since then, he’s been candid about his drug struggles and said stopping marijuana was the hardest part for him. He also opened up about how the death of his mother when he was 12 and the loss of his son Jayden, who died at 6 months old in 2006 from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), were some of the reasons why he fell into addiction. But he cleared up that he wasn’t making excuses.

“We all could make excuses, especially for failure,” Odom said. “At this point in my life, I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. I just want to live my best life and be happy. I want to make the people around me happy.”
