- Belle, a Doberman cattle-hound cross, got stuck in the birth canal during birth
- It resulted in the muscles in her head getting stretched back
An adorable dog who looks permanently surprised due to a rare birth defect has completely taken over the internet.
The eight-year-old Doberman cattle-hound cross, named Belle, got stuck in the birth canal during her birth, which resulted in the muscles in her head getting stretched back.
It makes her eyes appear more widened than normal, resulting in a constant look of surprise on her face.
Owner Lieschen O’Connor, from Kansas, adopted Belle in 2017 from Lawrence Humane Society, an organization that provides care for homeless and abused animals.
She has been documenting her day-to-day endeavors in recent years on TikTok, gaining 817,000 followers along the way, and transforming the sweet pup into a viral sensation.
In a recent clip, O’Connor shared some insight into why Belle looks the way she does.
‘You were likely stuck in the birth canal because the muscles on your face grew back a little bit farther,’ she said to the canine as she looked at the camera with her signature expression.
‘Everything’s there, you’re OK but you just look a little different.’

Belle’s condition doesn’t cause her any pain, but Lieschen regularly needs to apply eye drops as they often get a little dry.
‘She has no problem closing her eyes completely, and she can blink just fine,’ O’Connor previously told Newsweek.
O’Connor recalled wanting to adopt a dog for her husband’s 30th birthday and instantly being drawn to Belle at the shelter.
‘She was just a puppy, and filled with so much energy and wiggles,’ she said.
‘We took her into a small area to get to know her, and she immediately jumped in my lap, licked my face, and basically claimed us as her humans.’
When they took her home, O’Connor said she was ‘prancing around the house as if she had always lived there.’
O’Connor said on TikTok that Belle has a ‘silly, wonderful and loving personality,’ and she loves chewing shoes, napping, ‘big stretches’ and of course, treats.
‘Her favorite toys are balls and she loves pouncing on them, carrying them around, kicking them, and losing them under the couch,’ she added to Newsweek.

‘Belle is extremely sweet and a little goofy. If dogs could laugh, Belle would definitely laugh a lot,’ she said of the pup in 2022
‘When she hears a siren, she will walk around in a circle and imitate the siren like a hound.’
She also told SWNS in 2022: ‘Belle is extremely sweet and a little goofy. If dogs could laugh, Belle would definitely laugh a lot. She is gentle with other animals and great with kids.’
O’Connor revealed in another video that Belle first found viral fame by accident, after she listed a mirror on Facebook Marketplace in 2022 and included a snap that the dog had ‘photobombed.’
The image took over the web and ‘ever since then, they’ve been sharing her silly, wonderful, loving personality with everyone.’
