Sensing the immediate danger posed by the rising temperatures, the quick-thinking hiker did not hesitate to contact the Arizona Humane Society, initiating a rescue mission to save the vulnerable canine.

The dog, a 2-year-old Sharpei mix, now lovingly named Bright Eyes, was discovered on April 24. Positioned about half a mile up a narrow, treacherous part of the mountain path, the dog appeared extremely dehydrated and barely able to move. Recognizing the urgency, the hiker stayed by the dog’s side, providing comfort until help arrived.

Responding swiftly to the call, the AHS dispatched a pair of emergency animal medical technicians, Tracey Miiller and Ruthie Jesus. The technicians, equipped with specialized rescue gear and medical supplies, navigated the slippery trail to reach the imperiled dog. Their expertise and quick action were crucial in safely extricating Bright Eyes from the precarious situation.

The rescue team provided immediate on-site medical attention to address dehydration and exposure, stabilizing Bright Eyes for transport. Following the successful rescue, Bright Eyes was taken to the Arizona Humane Society’s care facility, where he received further medical treatment and began his journey to recovery.
