Meghan Markle and Prince Harry looked like the quintessential California family as they kicked off the weekend at the beach. In a picture shared by TMZ on Friday, August 1, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be seen swapping out their royal style for a beachy, dressed-down aesthetic with their son, Prince Archie.
Meghan and Harry were in proud parent mode as Archie, 6, surfed the waves during a lesson at Santa Claus Beach in Carpinteria—proving the young prince is following in his dad’s footsteps. In the photo, the pair—who are also parents to Princess Lilibet, 4—could be seen watching their son’s surf class from the beach and chatting with another couple. The As Ever entrepreneur went casual in ultra-short distressed daisy dukes, which she paired with a breezy white button-down shirt and a straw hat accented with a leather trim. Wearing her dark hair down in a sleek, straight style, Meghan opted to wear a pair of oversized black sunglasses for her sunny beach day.

Meanwhile, Harry wore black athletic shorts, a gray t-shirt, a tan baseball cap, and tinted aviator sunglasses during the family’s rare public outing.

While Prince Harry (who’s also a surfing enthusiast) didn’t join his son in the water, Meghan previously shared a clip of him teaching his son another important skill in a Father’s Day Instagram carousel. The mini royal could be seen learning how to ride his bike with his dad’s help, pedaling down the Sussex family’s long driveway in Montecito. Meanwhile, Archie’s little sister Lilibet got in on the fun by running after her brother’s bike.
Meghan Markle Says Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, Have Weekend Jobs to Keep Them Grounded
It’s important to their parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry that they learn the “value of things.”
In a recent podcast interview, Meghan Markle shared how she and husband Prince Harry find it very important to teach their kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet about money and privilege.
To that end, at just 6 years old and 4 years old, Archie and Lilibet have weekend jobs to help keep them grounded and learn the “value of things,” the Duchess of Sussex shared in the June 17 episode of Emma Grede’s “Aspire” podcast. Meghan told Grede that Archie and Lilibet help sell produce from the garden of the Sussex family’s Montecito, California home at the local farmer’s market on the weekends.
“We grow a lot of veggies,” Meghan said. “We sometimes do a little farmer’s market stand.”
“There’s a cost and a price for things, and I think that’s key for children to understand, especially children who are very lucky to have a home that has privilege,” she added. “You need to know that, just like manners and taking care of the things around you, there is a value on things.”
Of gardening in particular, Meghan continued that it is “really so great for children because it teaches them patience and teaches them to value and appreciate their food.”

The farmer’s market is also a great chance to teach the kids about money, she said: “So you start from seed and you watch it grow, and they wait,” Meghan told Grede. “But with that, it’s like, now do you want to sell your harvest? And do you want to share it with our community? And also, what do you want to do with those funds once you have them?”
In her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, she shared that Archie and Lilibet even have their own equipment to help in the garden: “Our kids have real sets,” Meghan said. “They take their gardening very seriously.”
“I think it’s nice to give kids seeds that they can plant,” she added. “Things that they can watch grow easily and pick from, like sugar snap peas and basil.”

Meghan drove home the importance of being around her kids while speaking with Grede in Tuesday’s episode: “This is such a key age,” she said. “I don’t want to miss a moment fro my children, and I love that I can do dropoff and pickup at school and do meetings in between and go to Disneyland for two days, as we just did,” she said, referencing a trip the family of four took earlier this month to celebrate Lilibet’s fourth birthday on June 4. “And, you know, volunteer to serve hot lunch at school or be the chaperone for the kindergarten field trip.”

Meghan also shared that she packs the kids’ school lunches, which she said she loved to do “at the end of a long day. The kids are down to bed at, like, 7ish. I can go downstairs, have a glass of wine, [and] I’m doing their little lunch. I find joy in it for whatever reason, and it can be therapeutic. That, for me, is one of my simple pleasures.”
Prince Harry Teaches Prince Archie This Skill in New Clip Released by Meghan Markle
Harry is Archie and his sister Princess Lilibet’s “favorite guy.”
Among the many intimate scenes that Meghan Markle shared of Prince Harry’s life as a dad to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet yesterday was a sweet shot of Harry doing a very fatherly duty—teaching Archie how to ride his bike.
The Duchess of Sussex posted a reel on June 15—which doubled as Father’s Day in both the U.S. and the U.K.—featuring never-before-seen clips of Harry with his kids, swinging on a porch swing, enjoying the beach, reading a book together, visiting animals, and, yes, biking. Clips of the kids range from their newborn days up to the present, and in some shots, Archie and Lilibet’s faces can be clearly seen—a rarity when it comes to Meghan posting photos and videos of them. As ever, their red hair is on full display.
The reel opens and closes with Harry with the kids outside at what is presumably their Montecito, California home, a Happy Father’s Day banner hung to celebrate Harry. Other glimpses of their stunning home—both indoor and outdoor—can be seen in the reel posted Sunday, including a clip of Harry and Archie dancing in the kitchen, and Archie learning to ride his bike with the help of Harry on the Sussex’s breathtaking driveway. As her brother takes off, Lilibet begins to run behind him and Harry, trying to catch up.
“The best,” Meghan wrote alongside the videos. “Happy Father’s Day to our favorite guy.”

Harry and Meghan were not at Trooping the Colour this weekend, where Harry’s father King Charles’ official birthday was being celebrated. Charles and Harry’s relationship remains estranged, and when the royal family’s official Instagram account posted a Father’s Day message yesterday, it didn’t make any mention of Charles’ sons Prince William or Harry—it celebrated Prince Philip, Charles’ father, and Bruce Shand, Queen Camilla’s father. The Duke of Edinburgh died in 2021, and Shand died in 2006.
The first photo shared by the royal family is one of Philip pushing Charles and his sister Princess Anne on a swing; the second is of Camilla and her father on her 2005 wedding day to Charles. “To all dads everywhere, we wish you a happy Father’s Day today,” the caption read.
Meghan was due to be honored this weekend at a gala in Los Angeles—and presumably Harry was to join her—but the gala was postponed amid ongoing protests in the city. Harry made a surprise appearance in a video clip released over the weekend speaking German to mark Germany’s inaugural Veteran’s Day, describing it as a “profound privilege” to address the country on this “sacred” day, per GB News.
The Duke of Sussex started his message in German before switching to English, recalling his visit to Düsseldorf alongside Meghan for the 2023 Invictus Games, which he said was “etched in my memory.”
“The warmth, the enthusiasm, and the unwavering support shown by the German people for our global community of wounded service personnel was truly humbling,” he said. “You certainly delivered on your promise to create a home for respect. That spirit of camaraderie, forged on the sports field, mirrors the unbreakable bond that connects veterans of all nations. We understand each other, regardless of flag or uniform, bound by shared experiences and an enduring commitment to service.”

“Veterans are more than warriors—they are leaders,” he continued. “Living testaments to resilience and moral courage, they understand that loyalty must never lie with power alone, but with the people. With truth.”
Harry served in the British Army for 10 years, including two tours of duty in Afghanistan. “As someone who has worn the uniform and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with brothers- and sisters-in-arms from across the world—including many of you—I know that the weight of service is not carried lightly,” Harry continued. “We serve not to glorify war, but to protect peace. Not to follow a single voice, but to uphold a collective oath—to country, to people, and to the principles that bind us together as free nations.”
“Today, let us renew our commitment—together—to protect the freedoms that define who we are, to serve each other for peace, for dignity, and for the enduring promise of democracy,” he added before signing off his message in German.
Harry wore many medals in the video, including many connected to his service to the royal family—the Afghan Campaign medal, the Golden Jubilee medal, the Diamond Jubilee medal, and the Platinum Jubilee medal, the latter three representing Queen Elizabeth’s 50, 60, and 70 years on the throne, respectively.
