Days after posting a simulated video depicting the arrest of former president Barack Obama, President Donald Trump on July 22 continued to push the theory that his predecessor had sought to mislead the American people about the 2016 election results and obstruct him from executing his first term from 2017 to 2020.
“The leader of this conspiracy was former president Obama, Barack Hussein Obama. He is guilty. This is treason. All the worst words you can think of. They tried to steal the election. They sought to falsify the results. They did things that no one has ever imagined, even in other countries,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office while hosting Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

In 2016, during the final days of Mr. Obama’s second term, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) concluded that Russia had attempted to interfere in the U.S. election with a bias toward helping Mr. Trump win. The U.S. government subsequently expelled a wave of Russian diplomats and imposed sanctions on Moscow.
A 2017 U.S. intelligence community report detailed Russia’s influence campaign on the U.S. election. However, by 2019, the report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded that it did not find sufficient evidence to establish that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, though it still accused Russia of interfering in the election in a “sweeping and systematic fashion.”

Mr. Trump has always viewed these investigations as political attacks aimed at undermining his authority. On July 22, the U.S. President reiterated recent statements from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and accused the Obama administration of committing a crime.
“They tried to rig the election, and then they got caught. They deserve to face severe consequences,” Mr. Trump said.
The tensions targeting Mr. Obama began when Ms. Gabbard announced on July 18 that new evidence regarding the “Russia Hoax” had been uncovered, showing that former president Obama and his national security cabinet “falsified and politicized intelligence to lay the groundwork for a years-long takedown campaign against President Trump.”

Subsequently, Gabbard continued to post a series of entries on social media, with some implying that she had pressured the U.S. Department of Justice to prosecute Mr. Obama. She argued that the investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election constituted a treasonous conspiracy. “Their objective was to overthrow President Trump and subvert the will of the American people,” Gabbard reasoned.
A spokesperson for Mr. Obama fired back against the allegations, stating they were “so absurd as to compel a response.”
Mr. Obama’s camp contended that the “laughably bizarre” allegations were merely a “feeble attempt to distract the public,” referencing the U.S. Department of Justice’s withholding of files regarding the pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
“Nothing in the documents released last week undermines the widely accepted conclusion that Russia sought to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and did not successfully manipulate any ballots,” Obama’s spokesperson said. “These conclusions were reaffirmed in the 2020 report by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was a senator at the time.”

Barack Obama’s Daughter ‘Bans’ Parents from Interfering in Her Career
Malia Obama is stepping up to establish herself in the film industry and wishes to build her career entirely on her own merit, without relying on the presence or influence of her famous parents, Hello! magazine reported on May 31.
Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of former U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, is pursuing a professional filmmaking path and is gradually making her own mark in the entertainment industry.
Refusing to Ride the Coattails of Famous Parents
In a recent episode of the IMO podcast—a show co-hosted by Michelle Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson—the author of the memoir Becoming revealed an interesting detail about her daughter while speaking with legendary director Steven Spielberg.
Michelle Obama stated that Malia Obama practically does not want her parents to appear in any activities related to her filmmaking work.
During the conversation, Steven Spielberg mentioned that the set of his latest project was the very first movie set Barack Obama had ever visited during production. The director jokingly told Michelle Obama that even though Malia Obama is also pursuing a filmmaking career, he had apparently “beaten” her daughter by becoming the first person to have the former U.S. president visit him on set. In response, Michelle Obama laughed and said, “She doesn’t care. She would never invite us to any of her projects. She really doesn’t want her parents showing up in her work.”

This revelation demonstrates that Malia Obama is striving to build an independent image and avoid letting her family’s fame impact her personal career.
Despite coming from one of the most prominent political families in the United States, Malia Obama chose to pursue an artistic path instead of politics. After graduating from Harvard University in 2021, she began building her career in the film and television industry through various positions behind the camera.
Before becoming a filmmaker, Malia Obama interned on the set of the TV series Girls, worked as a production assistant on the sci-fi series Extant starring Halle Berry, and spent time interning at The Weinstein Company. A notable milestone in her career came in 2023 when she joined the writing staff of the series Swarm, produced by Donald Glover. This was seen as an opportunity that helped Malia Obama accumulate professional experience within Hollywood’s professional filmmaking environment.

In early 2024, Malia Obama made her official debut as a writer-director with the short film The Heart. The piece was screened at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the most prestigious independent film events. The movie centers on the story of a lonely man dealing with the grief of losing his mother, thereby exploring themes of loss, forgiveness, and emotional connections in life.
Notably, in her film projects, she uses the professional moniker Malia Ann instead of the surname Obama. Many observers believe this is Malia Obama’s way of seeking recognition for her personal capabilities, rather than relying on her parents’ fame.

Obama Presidential Center Inaugurated: Former Presidents Gather, with Trump the Sole Absentee
Nearly a decade after leaving the White House, former President Barack Obama returned to the center of the American political stage with the dedication of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
According to Reuters, the ceremony took place on June 18, drawing thousands of attendees, including numerous former heads of state, cultural and entertainment figures, and nearly all living former U.S. presidents. Notably, incumbent President Donald Trump did not attend the event.

A Call to Defend Democracy and the Civic Spirit Speaking at the dedication ceremony, former President Barack Obama urged Americans to resist political cynicism and the growing trend of polarization within society.
He acknowledged that amid an uncertain future and tested faith in democratic institutions, appeals to civic responsibility or political participation might be viewed as outdated or naive.
However, according to the former president, it is precisely fundamental values such as equality, self-governance, and citizen participation that have helped America weather past hardships.
“I hope this center will remind everyone how precious our democracy is and what we can achieve when we fulfill our civic responsibilities together,” he said.
He also warned that if citizens abdicate their roles, power could fall into the hands of those willing to exploit fear, hostility, and division for their own benefit.

During his speech, Obama drew a massive response from the crowd when he invoked the phrase “No Kings,” a slogan that has appeared in numerous protests against President Donald Trump.
Even so, the former president emphasized that he still believes the majority of Americans desire to heal the country’s current fractures.
“People are not looking for perpetual anger and division. They want fairness, common sense, and mutual respect,” he said.
Meanwhile, former First Lady Michelle Obama offered emotional remarks praising her husband.
She stated that a leader’s true legacy does not reside in buildings bearing their name or the wealth they accumulate, but in the positive impact they leave on the lives of others.
“With your steady hand, class, and grace, you made the hardest job in the world look like a walk in the park,” she said, moving Mr. Obama to tears.

A Landmark Bearing the Obama Blueprint The dedication also marked a rare public gathering of former U.S. presidents.
Attending the event were former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Joe Biden, along with their families.
Other notable attendees included former Vice President Kamala Harris, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Mr. Trump’s absence drew particular attention, given his frequent public attacks on Mr. Obama—a sharp departure from the traditional decorum usually maintained among former U.S. presidents.
Located on Chicago’s South Side—an area deeply connected to Mr. Obama’s early years of community organizing and political career—the new center was constructed at a cost of approximately $850 million and will officially open to the public on June 19.
The nearly 20-acre complex includes a museum, a public library, performing arts spaces, playgrounds, an NBA-regulation basketball court, and various community spaces. The centerpiece is a 226-foot (69-meter) granite tower that houses the story of Mr. Obama’s life and his two presidential terms from 2009 to 2017.
The project’s bold design had previously sparked mixed opinions. Some likened the tower to a spaceship from the Star Wars franchise, while Mr. Trump once mocked it as resembling a giant trash can.
Nevertheless, supporters believe the center will become a new icon for Chicago and a repository for the most vital message Mr. Obama pursued throughout his political career: hope in America’s capacity for change when citizens participate and act together.
