King Charles posted warning signs at Sandringham after wasp activity reached concerning levels

A royal summer is being wrecked by some uninvited guests.

Queen Camilla revealed this week that Sandringham — the royal family’s Norfolk estate — is in the middle of a full-blown wasp invasion, calling it a “terrible” situation that’s disrupting life on the King’s private grounds.

The 78-year-old Queen made the remark during a solo appearance at the Ebor Festival on Aug. 21, where she opened a new facility at York Racecourse, according to Hello! Magazine.

Camilla shared the frustrating update and admitted it’s not just Sandringham being stung. Her own bees at her private Wiltshire home are also causing trouble by “swarming.”

The royal sting operation comes just days after King Charles III himself issued a formal warning to visitors at Sandringham.

On Aug. 18, signs were posted near public areas of the estate that read: “Please be aware that wasp activity is currently high in this area. Thank you.”

Meghan Markle has also pursued the hobby, as she featured a beekeeping segment in her show, “With Love, Meghan.”

The wasp infestation is just the latest issue to hit the monarch’s Sandringham Estate. King Charles was also said to be “livid” over a potential shortage of pheasants, according to The Sun.

The shortage could affect the chances of a full shooting calendar this winter. It is known as one of the monarch’s favorite pastimes during the holiday season.

King Charles III is livid, frustrated and disappointed, reflecting both his deep personal attachment to the cherished family tradition and his broader commitment to his royal heritage,” British royal expert Hilary Fordwich previously told Fox News Digital.

“He’s also annoyed that the mishap reflects rather poorly on the management of Sandringham, which he inherited from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II,” she explained.

“The shoot gathers his extended royal family and guests, reinforcing bonds while upholding a long-standing aristocratic tradition. The root of the problem is that Charles has always opposed importing birds from elsewhere, preferring to maintain the estate’s game population. The eco-friendly approach has failed.”

According to the outlet, the number of birds currently available has dropped. This may force Charles, who is battling an undisclosed form of cancer, to cancel the traditional Boxing Day shoot, which is described as a central part of the royal family’s holiday plans.

Prince Harry ‘desperate’ to win back royal family in latest maneuver with King Charles: expert

The Duke of Sussex’s offer to share his official schedule is seen as an attempt to win back the royal family’s trust while King Charles remains ‘cautious’

Prince Harry is said to be “desperate” to reconcile with his family.

The U.K.’s Daily Mail recently reported that the Duke of Sussex quietly extended an olive branch to the royals by offering to share his official schedule of engagements. According to the outlet, this is a bid to ease tensions between him and his father, King Charles III, who is battling an undisclosed form of cancer.

Fox News Digital reached out to a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment. The couple’s office declined to comment when reached by People magazine.

“Harry is now desperate,” British royals expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital.

“While this self-serving gesture is notable, it won’t do much to mitigate suspicion and caution on the royal side,” Fordwich claimed. “King Charles III is now more guarded than ever, indeed somewhat traumatized by a string of betrayals.”

Fordwich noted that, according to palace insiders, the king “has expressed being ‘cautious and wary’ regarding fearing further unsavory leaks, [especially] private royal family gatherings being publicized yet again.”

“Also, overall doubt still prevails in Prince William’s camp,” Fordwich claimed. “He considers any reconciliation at all as a ‘grave mistake.’ His senior royal courtiers are understood to be just as wary and immensely protective of the future monarch. They only see [a reconciliation] as creating more bombshells, as well as instability.”

According to the outlet, Harry’s proposal will allow transparency, avoiding conflicts between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s public outings and the British royal family’s engagements. This will also attempt to quash rumors the Sussexes are trying to overshadow the royal family.

It’s noted that Harry’s recent visit to Angola honoring his late mother, Princess Diana, eclipsed stories about Queen Camilla’s 78th birthday.

The outlet also revealed that Harry sharing his diary would potentially spark conversations about when father and son can meet in person again. Harry and Charles were last together for a brief meeting in February 2024 after Buckingham Palace announced the 76-year-old’s cancer diagnosis.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital he’s optimistic about Harry’s latest move.

“This represents a gesture of goodwill,” he said. “The Sussexes should always respect the royal calendar, where natural care is taken to avoid clashes whenever possible. … This is a practical move that will be appreciated. It appears the Sussexes are getting some good advice.”

Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner agreed.

“This is a very significant departure and development for Harry as he attempts to find a peaceful way forward,” he told Fox News Digital. “In my opinion, this should be construed as a way forward and one which the royal family should accept and move forward to a peaceful conclusion for the future.”

After their royal exit, the couple aired their grievances in interviews and documentaries. Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” which detailed embarrassing revelations about the House of Windsor, only worsened tensions with his family.

In televised interviews to promote the book, Harry accused his stepmother, Queen Camilla, of leaking private conversations to the media in an attempt to gain favorable tabloid coverage. He singled out Camilla’s efforts to rehabilitate her image with the public after her longtime affair with his father.

Sources close to Harry previously told People magazine the king wouldn’t respond to his letters or phone calls. Several royal experts told Fox News Digital William and Harry aren’t on speaking terms.

In May, Harry told the BBC he wanted to reconcile with his family, but his father wouldn’t speak to him.

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said. “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

The Daily Mail reported that Harry’s aides had a private meeting July 9 with the king’s communications secretary in London.

Fox News Digital learned that Meredith Maines, the Duke of Sussex’s chief of staff and communications director, had traveled across the pond to meet with the U.K.-based communications team, media, stakeholders and senior figures connected to the prince’s patronages. The visit was entirely routine and part of ongoing planning and engagement.

Representatives for Buckingham Palace and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment at the time.

Still, an insider told People magazine “it was a good first step.”

“It is always better to be talking,” the source said. “It’s a positive step. There’s optimism that it can be taken forever.”

William and wife Kate Middleton were reportedly unaware of the meeting. People magazine noted that the strain between the brothers continues.

“It’s no coincidence that William and Catherine did not have a representative [at the meeting],” a friend told the Daily Mail.

“They were not asked to send anyone and will be treating the talks with extreme caution. The fact that it ended up in the newspapers tells you all you need to know.”

Fordwich said it would take a lot more work for Harry to win back his family’s trust again.

“If there is to be any proper reconciliation, the royal family has absolutely no need to move at anything other than a glacial pace,” she explained. “As for the calendar gesture, it’s not important to the royal family. They share their calendars with the British government and other foreign governments. … It’s up to Harry to plan properly around the royals, not the other way around.”

“This is … a desperate move on Harry’s part,” Fordwich claimed. “This supposed willingness to now coordinate schedules doesn’t equate to true contrition nor a genuine commitment to royal values.

“The only way for Harry to ever have any chance of repairing this ghastly rift is by his actions,” Fordwich insisted. “Harry would have to show discretion for many years to demonstrate any respect at all for protocol, privacy, as well as the family institution.”

King Charles felt ‘unbearable emptiness’ after Princess Diana’s death

The Princess of Wales, 36, was killed on Aug 31, 1997 in Paris

King Charles was “shattered” when he learned that his ex-wife, Princess Diana, had died in a car accident.

The glamorous Princess of Wales passed away on Aug. 31, 1997. At the time, the 36-year-old was being chased by paparazzi in Paris. Her companion, Dodi Fayed, and their chauffeur, Henri Paul, also perished in the crash.

“When he was first told over the phone that Diana had died, Charles, according to an eyewitness, “howled like a wounded animal,’’ Christopher Andersen, author of “The Day Diana Died,” told Fox News Digital.

“Later, after he rushed from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to Paris to bring her back to England, Charles nearly passed out when he first viewed her body,” he shared. “A nurse who was standing in the room told me he reeled back and looked as if he had been ‘struck by an unseen force.’ Considering how epic their marital battles had been, people were surprised at Charles’ reaction. He was devastated by Diana’s death, perhaps to a degree that surprised even him.”

“Charles was shattered,” Andersen added.

Andersen’s statements came shortly after a letter written by the former Prince Charles to his friend was sold at auction for $2,000. In it, Charles detailed the “unbearable emptiness” he felt four months after Diana’s death, the U.K.’s DailyMail reported.

Andersen noted that in Diana’s final months, the exes finally put aside their differences for the sake of their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

“In the months before Diana’s death, she and Charles decided to put their bitterness behind them and become, in her words, ‘very best friends,’” Andersen explained. “A close confidant of Diana’s told me that ‘her love for Charles never really died.’ Diana even grudgingly admitted that the love and devotion Charles and [his mistress] Camilla had was something to be admired.”

“Charles and Diana wrote, surprisingly, affectionate notes to each other,” said Andersen. “On the eve of Diana’s death, Charles dashed one off to her that began ‘My dearest Diana’ and ended with ‘Lots of love, Charles.’”

She never received it.

Behind palace doors, Charles was “swept up in a whirlwind of emotion” after learning what happened to Diana.

“The mother of his two young sons had been killed in a horrific car crash,” said Andersen. “She also happened to be the most idolized woman in the world. Charles had to battle his mother, the queen, and the entire establishment of the monarchy to ensure that Diana was given the kind of funeral she deserved.”

Diana received a ceremonial funeral that was attended by 2,000 people. It was watched by over 2 billion people worldwide.

As Charles grieved, Diana’s rival Camilla Parker Bowles became “the target of death threats.”

“She had to go into hiding until things calmed down,” said Andersen. “[And] as loving a father as Charles – and even though he was heartbroken over Diana’s tragic death – he took the time-honored stiff upper lip approach. Diana’s boys were never given grief counseling of any kind. William and Harry were famously forced to walk behind their mother’s coffin through the streets of London teeming with a million weeping spectators – what their uncle Earl Spencer later described as ‘a tunnel of grief.’”

“Both William and Harry have never fully come to terms with their mother’s death,” Andersen shared. “And in a sense, they have yet to emerge from that tunnel of grief.”

After Diana was laid to rest, Charles would still be haunted by the memories – and legacy -of his ex-wife.

“It seemed to Charles that now he would never be able to marry his longtime mistress,” said Andersen. “At every turn, it seemed that Charles was thwarted by the memory of Diana. After Diana’s death, it took eight years for Charles to convince Queen Elizabeth II to allow him to marry Camilla – and then only after he promised that Camilla would never be known as queen. In the minds of millions, this was the title that rightfully would have gone to Diana had Camilla not wrecked Diana’s marriage to Charles.”

“Of course, Charles broke that promise… and crowned Camilla queen,” said Andersen.

Charles ascended to the throne upon the death of his mother. England’s longest-reigning monarch died in 2022 at age 96. Charles and Camilla married in 2005 and were crowned in May 2023.

“Charles may have confessed to feelings of ‘unbearable emptiness’ four months after Diana’s death, but it wasn’t that long before he began to resent the persistent shadow she cast over everything he did,” Andersen claimed. “After a quarter-century, Charles and Camilla still must endure comparison with the incomparable Princess Diana.”

Today, the king is battling an undisclosed form of cancer. Andersen claimed that his illness had put the 75-year-old “in a reflective mood.”

“I’m sure his memories of Diana – both the positive and the negative – are always there, lurking in the background,” said Andersen. “She was a larger-than-life figure who grew even larger in death. King Charles spent years shadowboxing with the ghost of Diana.”

Andersen previously told Fox News Digital it is likely that Charles has had regrets about his marriage to Diana over the years.

“To understand just how heartbreaking Diana’s marriage to Charles was, you have to go back to the beginning,” Andersen explained. “Just as Kate Middleton and millions of other girls put pinups of William on their bedroom walls and dreamed of marrying the handsome prince, Diana and her generation fantasized about marrying [the former] Prince Charles. Diana was only 19 when she got engaged to Charles, and even then it was pretty clear that she was in love with him, but that he was still in love with Camilla.

“During the TV interview right after the engagement, Charles uttered his famous ‘whatever in love means’ when asked if he loved Diana. Diana, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate to say she loved him. There may have been moments when Charles wrote tender words to his Diana, but their marriage was pretty much a nightmare for both from day one.”

“There was one brief time during Diana’s second pregnancy when they became truly close,” Andersen continued. “Diana would say it was the closest they had ever been or ever would be – but that all blew up as soon as Harry was born. Charles, who had hoped for a girl, blurted out ‘Oh, God, it’s a boy. And he even has red hair.’ Diana said ‘at that moment something inside me closed off.’

“Charles undoubtedly regrets that he ever allowed himself to be bullied by his father Prince Philip into marrying Diana – although that would, of course, have meant that William and Harry never would have existed. The sad truth is, Camilla was the love of Charles’ life all along, and Diana knew it.”
