Could Ellen DeGeneres’ Move to the UK Be Linked to Trump’s Reelection?
Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly relocated to the UK, and Donald Trump’s presidential victory is cited as one of the key reasons behind their decision.
A source close to Ellen DeGeneres recently told The Wrap that the influential talk show host and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have moved to the Cotswolds in rural England. The source described Donald Trump’s win as a “catalyst” for their decision. Last September, DeGeneres publicly supported Kamala Harris and openly mocked Vice President-elect JD Vance’s controversial statements.
Meanwhile, Fox News confirmed that DeGeneres’ Montecito, California, mansion was listed for sale in August. The television star purchased the property in 2019 and made it their home. The status of DeGeneres’ other properties in Southern California remains unclear. When asked about the matter, a former spokesperson for the 66-year-old said they no longer represent her.
While the election results are believed to have motivated DeGeneres and her wife to leave the U.S., there’s another part to the story. During her September comedy special, “For Your Approval,” DeGeneres claimed she had been “kicked out of the entertainment industry.” Reports of a toxic workplace, including allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment by senior executives on her talk show, surfaced in 2020. Warner Bros. subsequently launched an internal investigation, and DeGeneres issued a written apology to her staff.
“On day one of our show, I told everyone at our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a happy place. No one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect. Obviously, something changed, and I am so disappointed to learn that this was not the case,” DeGeneres said. “I would not have had the success I’ve had without all of your contributions. My name is on the show, and everything we do, and I take responsibility for that.” She also pledged that a similar incident would not happen again.
Warner Bros. also announced that based on their findings, there would be staffing changes. “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” aired its final episode in 2022, and DeGeneres’ reputation was permanently affected.
Born in 1958, Ellen DeGeneres is known as one of America’s most powerful and highest-paid hosts. She built her name through her talent for hosting prestigious events and her comedic, acting, writing, and producing skills. According to Forbes’ May 2024 report, the 66-year-old star has an estimated net worth of $450 million. DeGeneres, who is gay, married former actress Portia de Rossi in 2008, and they have been together ever since.
The news of DeGeneres’ departure comes after similar “empty threats” from other celebrities like Cher, Sharon Stone, and Barbra Streisand, who had also vowed to leave the U.S. if Trump were reelected but have not yet taken any action.
Ellen DeGeneres Reveals Health Diagnoses, Embracing a New Chapter in the UK
Ellen DeGeneres is starting a new chapter in her life, not only with her recent move to the UK but also by opening up about her personal health struggles. During a recent stand-up comedy performance, the 66-year-old host candidly shared a series of surprising diagnoses, including osteoporosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
These revelations have caught many by surprise, as DeGeneres has long been known for her optimistic and high-energy on-stage persona. Publicly sharing these conditions reveals a more vulnerable side to her, showing that she, like anyone else, deals with significant health challenges.
Mental and Physical Health Disclosures
DeGeneres used her signature humor to talk about her osteoporosis, a condition that makes bones brittle and fragile. She comically described herself as a “sandcastle” and joked that she might “disintegrate in the shower.” While an exaggeration, this highlights the seriousness of the condition.
Additionally, her diagnoses of OCD and ADHD are particularly noteworthy. OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by repetitive thoughts or behaviors, while ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes issues with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These diagnoses may partially explain the shift in her life, from a perpetually busy celebrity to someone seeking a quieter, more peaceful existence in the English countryside.
A New Chapter of Peace and Well-being
DeGeneres’ personal health issues, combined with the pressures of the entertainment industry and the toxic workplace controversy, are believed to have driven her away from the Hollywood spotlight. Her move to the Cotswolds, England, with her wife, Portia de Rossi, is not just a political statement but also a choice for her mental and physical well-being.
Her new life in the UK allows her to find peace, away from the public eye and the stresses of being a top-tier celebrity. This decision reflects a significant change: DeGeneres is now prioritizing her health and personal happiness over her career. While she has mentioned that she “misses” hosting, her health revelations show that she needed a break to recover and find balance in her life.
Ellen DeGeneres’s candidness not only resonates with her fans but also serves as an inspiration to many. It is a reminder that even the most successful celebrities face personal challenges and that taking care of one’s health is always the most important thing.
Ellen DeGeneres Says Wife Portia de Rossi Is ‘Living Her Dream’ in the English Countryside as She Reveals Glimpse into New Life
DeGeneres and de Rossi relocated to England from California in November
Ellen DeGeneres is sharing a glimpse into wife Portia de Rossi’s new life in the English countryside.
In an Instagram post on Aug. 20, the former talk show host, 67, shared a video compilation of de Rossi riding her horse.
“Portia’s living her dream riding her horse through the English countryside and into the village,” she wrote, before joking, “Gosh I hope she comes home soon”
The post included a look inside the couple’s life in the English countryside after they relocated to England from California in November.
In the clip, the comedian asked her wife, “Are you going to a photo shoot?” to which de Rossi, 52, responded, “No” with a laugh as she continued to guide her horse down a path.
As Taylor Swift’s “August” plays in the background, the video cuts to the actress smiling while riding the horse down a dirt trail before passing by cottages in the English countryside.
She can also be seen riding the horse through a field and on another trail surrounded by trees.
The post comes one month after the pair decided to list their Cotswolds estate for $30 million.
DeGeneres revealed to The Wall Street Journal last month that they’re selling the property not because they’re leaving England, but because they need more space for their animals.
“When we decided to live here full time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses,” she told the outlet in a statement. “We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them.”

Listing agent Andrew Barnes of Sotheby’s International Realty confirmed to the outlet that the couple had moved into a bigger, more modern home in the area to accommodate de Rossi’s animals.
Eight months prior to listing the property, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that DeGeneres had moved abroad after finding a house she fell in love with in the U.K.
“Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October. She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after,” the insider said at the time.
Last month, DeGeneres revealed the reason for the couple’s move was due to the 2024 presidential election results.
On July 20, English broadcaster Richard Bacon asked her whether Donald Trump’s victory played a role in their relocation, to which she replied, “Yes,” per the BBC.
She also noted how life in the U.K. has been better for them.
The pair “got here the day before the election,” she recalled, “and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ … And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.’”

“We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life,” the California native continued. “We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
She also noted that the English countryside is “absolutely beautiful,” and that she and de Rossi are enjoying “just a simpler way of life.”+.
Portia de Rossi’s New Chapter: A Quiet Life in the UK and a Focus on Art
Portia de Rossi, the actress best known for her roles on “Ally McBeal” and “Arrested Development,” is embarking on a new chapter in her life alongside her wife, Ellen DeGeneres, following their move to the United Kingdom.
According to reports, the couple relocated from California to the Cotswolds in rural England this November. Ellen DeGeneres recently shared a social media post saying that Portia de Rossi is “living her dream” by riding horses through the English countryside. This information paints a picture of a more peaceful, simple lifestyle, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.
A Major Career Shift
This significant life change comes a few years after de Rossi made a pivotal career decision. In 2018, she announced that she was quitting acting to fully dedicate herself to her art business. She founded a company called General Public, which specializes in reproducing artworks as high-quality replicas. Her goal is to “democratize” art and help artists distribute their work directly to the public.
While she has stepped away from the screen, Portia de Rossi has a notable history in the entertainment industry. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role as Nelle Porter in “Ally McBeal” and received several nominations for her portrayal of Lindsay Bluth Fünke in “Arrested Development.”
Personal Life and Well-being
Regarding her personal health, Portia de Rossi has been open about her past struggles with an eating disorder, a challenge she has since overcome. In 2021, she was also hospitalized for an emergency appendectomy.
Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres married in 2008 and recently celebrated their 17th anniversary. Their relationship is reportedly strong, with Ellen DeGeneres previously stating that she could not have navigated the recent career challenges without her wife’s support.
Portia de Rossi’s new life in the UK reflects her priorities, with a clear focus on her personal well-being and her art business over the acting career that made her famous.
