August 2024: Taylor Swift and Blake Lively hang out in Rhode Island

After Swift wrapped up the European leg of her Eras tour in August 2024, photos obtained by TMZ showed that she and Lively were spending time together in Rhode Island, along with Reynolds and Kelce.

The couples were also joined by some of their famous friends, including Bradley Cooper and his daughter, Lea, Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes, Brittany and their daughter Sterling, along with Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, and his wife Kylie Kelce.

November 2024: Ryan Reynolds confirms Taylor Swift is the godparent to the children he shares with Blake Lively

While talking to Deadline, Reynolds was asked about a comment Swift made in an Instagram post she shared to promote Deadpool & Wolverine when it hit theaters. At the time, she’d written, “Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!”

Reynolds joked that he wanted that line “on my gravestone,” adding, “Yeah, that is kind of it. She is the godparent to my daughters. That was very sweet. Not just sweet, that was, like, you could probably quantify a box office based on Taylor just doing something like that.”

May 2025: Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s friendship has “halted”

The ongoing court battle between Lively and Baldoni, which resulted in Swift being served a subpoena from Baldoni’s lawyers, has put a strain on their friendship.

A source close to Swift told PEOPLE, “Their friendship has halted. Taylor wants no part in this drama.”

Another insider added that while Swift and Lively are “not no longer friends,” they are “taking some space” from each other.

According to a complaint filed by Baldoni in January — which was reviewed by PEOPLE — Lively referred to Swift as one of her “dragons” in an alleged text message.

“I happen to have a few dragons. For better or worse, but usually for better,” Lively’s alleged text read. “Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. [Smiley-face emoji] you will too, I can promise you.”

In another alleged text from Lively in the filing, the actress referred to Swift and Reynolds as her “most trusted partners.”

June 2025: Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are working towards being “on good terms”

After Baldoni dropped his subpoena against Swift, a source told PEOPLE that she and Lively were working on being “on good terms” again, though “their friendship isn’t the same as it was before.”

The source added that the friends “aren’t as close and haven’t been spending as much time together as they did in the past.”

August 2025: Taylor Swift and Blake Lively “aren’t speaking”

Another update on where Swift and Lively stand came in August 2025. Days after Swift announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, she sparked fan speculation that one song on the track list, “Ruin the Friendship,” could be about Lively.

Swift and Lively’s relationship has been under scrutiny since the “It Ends With Us” actress’ legal battle with costar and director Justin Baldoni.

Another Taylor Swift era, another round of pre-release speculation about who her new songs could be about.

When the pop icon announced the tracklist to her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the New Heights podcast Wednesday, Swifties immediately did what they do best and started parsing through each song title for possible meaning. One in particular caught their eye: “Ruin the Friendship.”

Fans immediately hit social media with their theories that the song, which is the sixth track on the album, could be about longtime Swift pal Blake Lively and the status of their friendship.

To recap, Lively’s ongoing and very public legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni began in December 2024. The pair took legal action against each other, with Lively accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign, and Baldoni launching a countersuit, alleging defamation and extortion. Since then, Swift and Lively’s relationship has been under scrutiny.

The Grammy winner got pulled into the mix when a complaint filed by Baldoni’s legal team (which was later dismissed) alleged that she had pressured him to accept Lively’s script changes on the movie, which Lively’s team called “categorically false.” Baldoni’s countersuit included text messages between Lively and Baldoni, in which the actress seemingly alludes to Swift as “one of her dragons” while likening herself to Game of Thrones‘ Khaleesi (Emilia Clarke).

Then, in May 2025, matters reached a fever pitch when Baldoni’s team attempted to subpoena Swift, which prompted a rep for the pop star to slam the maneuver as a scheme to generate “tabloid clickbait.”

“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” a spokesperson for Swift told Entertainment Weekly at the time.

For their part, Swift and Lively have not publicly commented on how, or if, any of this has affected their friendship, though they haven’t been seen in public together in quite some time. And while Swift never reveals who her songs are about, she has been open about how she uses real-life inspirations in her music (after all, Lively and Ryan Reynolds‘ children have had cameos in or served as character name inspiration in tracks such as “Gorgeous” and “Betty”).

A rep for Swift didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment Thursday, but, the singer herself did provide some possible context on the New Heights podcast Wednesday.

In the conversation, which was between Swift, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason, the singer revealed that she (somehow?) found time while she was on her Eras Tour in Europe to record Showgirl. “I just love it a lot. I love music,” Swift shared. “I would be playing shows. I’d do, like, three shows in a row. I’d have three days off. I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour — and actually, like, working on this – I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.”

The European leg of Swift’s tour took place between May and August of 2024, so if the album was written and recorded in its entirety during that time, it likely couldn’t be about Lively, given that the It Ends With Us drama began in earnest in December of that year.

But, until Swift or Lively provide more insight, fans are just going to have to wait til The Life of a Showgirl releases on Oct. 3 to find out just who or what the song could be about.

Blake Lively takes swipe at Justin Baldoni’s lawyer over alleged ‘smear campaign’ in deposition transcript

Blake Lively took a swipe at Justin Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, during her July 31 deposition, accusing him of being part of the actor’s alleged smear campaign against her.

According to a heavily redacted portion of her deposition transcript filed by Lively’s team Monday and obtained by Us Weekly, Freedman asked the actress when the alleged smear campaign by Baldoni and his team “ended.”

The “Gossip Girl” alum responded, “It doesn’t feel like it’s ended.” When asked if the alleged smear campaign was “still ongoing,” Lively reportedly replied, “It feels that way, ya.”

Freedman asked what “basis” the actress had for believing “the defendants and myself are involved in an ongoing smear campaign?”

“Outside of what I know through my attorneys, I believe the act of a retaliatory lawsuit and the press that you have done and the statements that you have made about me and my character have felt incredibly retaliatory,” she said, per the documents.

When asked what the defendants “do that’s part of the ongoing smear campaign,” Lively said, “Like I said, outside of conversations with my attorney, I’m unable to answer that.”

Baldoni’s attorney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The actor, 41, was present for the New York City deposition, which took place at the offices of Lively’s attorneys. The documents obtained by Us Weekly were only a small portion of the entire deposition.

According to documents obtained by Page Six on Aug. 4, Lively’s lawyers accused Baldoni and his team of “immediately” leaking “details from the deposition to the tabloid media” in an attempt to “advance a storyline that the deposition was a face-to-face showdown between Mr. Baldoni and Ms. Lively.”

The motion clarified that Lively “testified across the table from Mr. Baldoni, Jamey Heath, Steve Sarowitz, Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel, all of whom attended this deposition in person, as well as eight attorneys representing the Wayfarer and Wallace Parties, two of whom questioned her” and accused Baldoni’s lawyers of seeking to “create a media circus.”
