Camilla, who has served as Lady Sponsor of the HMS Astute since naming the vessel in 2007, marked the occasion with a ceremonial visit to the submarine at HM Naval Base Devonport. The event also celebrated the end of the ship’s first 15-year commission — the longest of any Royal Navy sub.

As part of the festivities, Queen Camilla inspected a Guard of Honor, posed for photos with crew members, and was presented with a burgee (a special naval pennant) recognizing her continued support. She also delivered a heartfelt speech at a garden party for the ship’s company and their families, where she praised the submarine’s accomplishments and called for a celebratory toast with a playful nautical phrase: “Splice the Mainbrace!”

In a statement, First Sea Lord General Sir Gwyn Jenkins said the appointment “reflects the high regard in which Her Majesty is held by all of us” and will deepen her ties to the Royal Navy.
