As soon as Lisa Reams, a longtime rescuer and the founder of Saving Grace Animal Rescue, received a call about a little puppy discarded in a dumpster in Yazoo City, Mississippi, she headed to the spot to rescue him.

However, once she arrived there, there was no sign of the pup. She looked for him but couldn’t find him. The rescuer refused to give up.

She returned an hour later and found the tiny pup cowering next to the dumpster. He seemed so helpless and had no food or water.

Once Reams began talking to him, the puppy, later named Oscar, got scared and tried to hide under the dumpster.

Rescuing Oscar

The rescuer gently picked him up. Oscar started whimpering and growling, trying to resist being captured.

Reams felt heartbroken for him. She could tell that he was infested with worms and starving.

While she held him in her hands, Oscar felt at ease. He seemed to know that he was now safe.

The rescuer checked each dumpster to make sure that there were no other puppies discarded in the trash. 

“… I did a thorough search of the area, looked inside the dumpsters, underneath the dumpsters with a flashlight, he was the only one here,” Reams said on TikTok.

The rescuer scanned Oscar, but there was no microchip.

Since Saving Grace Animal Rescue was at capacity, Reams contacted Angie Young, the founder of Southern Mutts, a rescue in Greenwood, Mississippi. 

Young promised to take Oscar into their care and find him a forever home once he was ready.

Reams decided to foster Oscar and brought him home. She fed him and gave him a bath.

The next day, she took him to the vet for his first checkup. Oscar, who was estimated to be around six weeks old, was diagnosed with hookworm and ringworm infections.

After the vet prescribed him a dewormer, Oscar returned home with his foster mom.

Reams returned to the area where Oscar was found and searched one more time for his mother and littermates, but there was nobody there.

Oscar Begins Flourishing Into An Adorable Boy

She took care of Oscar and helped him settle into her home.

At first, he was shy, and he felt scared whenever Reams tried to pick him up.

Oscar’s foster mom cared for the puppy and gave him her love. 

Day after day, the pup became more confident, letting his personality show. Oscar turned out to be an absolute cuddlebug who loves belly rubs. 

His foster mom bought him many toys. The pup was delighted and began learning to play with them.

Oscar will stay with his foster mom until he reaches full health. Once he is ready, the adorable boy will start searching for his perfect match.

I have no doubt that a puppy as delightful and loving as Oscar will find a family who will adore him and cherish him forever.
