The dog named Buttercup was found by Miami-Dade Animal Services on Jan. 12 in Florida

A 15-year-old dog has been reunited with her owner after over 10 years apart in Doral, Fla.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Miami-Dade Animal Services revealed in a Facebook post that the dog named Buttercup was able to go back to her home thanks to a microchip.

“Last week, Buttercup was reunited with her owner after being missing for more than 10 years,” the statement read alongside what appeared to be photos of the pet and her owner. “A decade apart, and thanks to a simple scan, this sweet girl finally made her way home. Moments like this remind us why microchipping matters.”

The animal services added, “A microchip is only as good as the information attached to it. Keeping your contact details updated can be the difference between a lost pet staying lost and a happy reunion like Buttercup’s.”

Miami-Dade Animal Services found Buttercup on Jan. 12, according to WSVN.

The outlet reported that the owner had two dogs that were missing and, therefore, thought Buttercup had died.

PEOPLE reached out to the Miami-Dade Animal Services for further comment, but they did not immediately respond.

This reunion comes after PEOPLE reported last week that a missing 13-year-old dog was returned to his family after five years apart.

Parker, who is also a resident in Florida, was taken to the Animal Services Department of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office after being found on the side of the road on Jan. 12.

After being scanned, a microchip was used to identify Parker’s owners.

“Tired, thinner than he once was, and moving more slowly with age, Parker had clearly been through a long journey,” the sheriff’s office told Spectrum News. “Had he made a long trek that led him home or had he been with someone else nearby, we may never know.”
