In November 2020, the life of young skateboarder Brooklinn Khoury was divided into before and after: she fell victim to a pit bull attack. However, this did not shatter her self-belief and love for life. We admire her resilience and courage and are eager to share her story with you.
She thought he was a friendly pit bull.
Khoury was in the kitchen, petting her cousin’s 8-year-old blue nose pit bull named Diesel, whom she had previously met and considered well-behaved, when the dog suddenly attacked her. She tried to stay calm and went to the hospital right away. But despite their efforts, the surgeons could not fix her injured upper lip.
She mentioned pulling out her phone just to check her appearance, and claimed she ’didn’t know’ her phone took a picture until later. “I knew it was bad but I didn’t know how bad it was,” she said. “It’s crazy because this photo has helped my doctor tremendously because he was able to see the original bite marks from the attack and kind of map out what happened.”
She shared her mental and physical recovery journey online.
She has been very open and transparent about her recovery journey, sharing her experiences, thoughts, and feelings with the public on Instagram. In one post, she wrote, “When I was attacked, it was so hard to see what the future held for me.” She explained how thankful she was for people who constantly reminded her to trust the process.
“The first time seeing my face after the surgery was scary,” she said, “But I was like, ’Okay, time to love this new version of myself for now.’”
She breaks the perfection façade on Instagram.
Khoury is an example of courage and zest for life. She continues to lead an active lifestyle, skateboarding, hanging out with friends, and living life to the fullest. She uses Instagram, a platform where many people tend to present a perfect image of themselves, to share her raw life as it is. As a skateboarder, she has always been open about both the good and bad aspects of her experiences, including showing falls and other setbacks.
She never allowed her injury to hold her back.
She refused to let her injury defeat her. Still undergoing surgeries, she celebrated her femininity. Visiting Sephora to try new lip glosses, Khoury shared her spontaneous joy with the world.
Her love story is also inspiring.
Chloé Lukasiak, an alumna of Dance Moms, is currently dating Khoury. The couple recently celebrated their one-year anniversary, and in a heartfelt message, Khoury gushed, “This year, because of you, has been, by far, the greatest year of my life.”
She is using her personal platform to help others.
She opened her Instagram account not just for her own journey, but also to help others. She invited whoever was facing adversity or difficulties to reach out to her. “If you are going through something physically or mentally or just need someone to talk to, I am here,” Khoury added.
It’s impossible not to be inspired by resilient individuals who, instead of being defeated by hardships, emerge even stronger. Another uplifting tale is that of Katie Piper, who faced an acid attack orchestrated by her ex-boyfriend.
