Forgotten on My 3rd Birthday
Kali, a loyal and loving Golden Retriever, was more than just a pet to me; she was my best friend. We had been inseparable since the day she bounded into my life, a tiny ball of fluff. As my third birthday approached, I was filled with excitement. I couldn’t wait to celebrate with my family and friends. I had been dreaming of a big party with all my favorite toys and treats.
The morning of my birthday arrived, and I was up early, tail wagging excitedly. I ran around the house, hoping to catch a glimpse of the preparations for my special day. But to my surprise, there was nothing. No balloons, no banners, and no special breakfast. I waited patiently by the door, hoping someone would come and take me for a walk or play fetch. But no one came.
As the day went on, I began to feel a little sad. I wandered from room to room, hoping to find someone to celebrate with me. I even tried to get my human’s attention by bringing her my favorite toy, but she seemed too busy to notice.
When night fell, I curled up in my bed, feeling lonely and forgotten. I thought about all the fun I had had on my previous birthdays and couldn’t understand why this one was so different. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, hoping that when I woke up, it would all be a bad dream.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my human getting ready for work. I jumped up and wagged my tail, hoping she would finally notice me. But as she walked past me, she simply patted my head and said, “Good morning, Kali.”
I felt a lump form in my throat. It seemed like no one cared about my birthday. I spent the rest of the day feeling sad and alone. I didn’t understand why my family had forgotten about me.
As the days turned into weeks, I began to realize that maybe my birthday wasn’t as important to them as it was to me. But even though I was disappointed, I still loved them unconditionally. I knew that they would never intentionally hurt me, and I was grateful for the love and care they gave me every day.
Kali was overwhelmed with joy. She chased after a colorful ball, her tail wagging furiously. She tore open her presents, each one a treasure. But the most special gift was a soft, plush toy that looked exactly like her. She cuddled it tightly, her eyes filled with happiness.
As the party wound down, Kali’s human pulled her aside for a moment. They sat on the couch, and Kali rested her head on her human’s lap. “Remember when we went to the beach last summer?” her human asked, smiling. “You dug a huge hole and buried all your bones in it.” Kali’s ears perked up. She remembered that day vividly.
Her human continued, “I buried a special treat at the bottom of that hole. I thought you might like to find it again.” Kali’s tail wagged so hard, it seemed like it might fly off. She knew exactly what she had to do.
The next day, her human took her to the beach. As they walked along the shore, Kali’s nose twitched excitedly. She remembered the exact spot where she had buried her treasure. With a burst of energy, she dug and dug until she finally uncovered the buried treat. She looked up at her human, her eyes sparkling with gratitude.
It was the perfect ending to a perfect day. Kali curled up next to her human that night, feeling loved and content. She knew that she was the luckiest dog in the world.
