An Oregon family was in disbelief when they found an abandoned mama dog and her eight puppies struggling in the woods.
The sad mother dog was tied up to a tree while her babies curled up around her, seeking her warmth and protection.
The family noticed that the mother’s leg was injured, and they assumed that she probably got hurt while protecting her puppies from the wild animals.
As soon as volunteers from Gresham, Oregon heard about the dogs’ situation, they rushed to their aid.
Saving The Canine Family
Once they reached the woods and saw the desperate canine family, the volunteers were overwhelmed with emotions.
“It was a mix of overwhelming joy and heartbreak. Joy that they were found in time — but deep sadness and disbelief that such a loving mother and her babies had been left behind,” Knotty Creek Animal Rescue executive director Bailey Porter told The Dodo.
The volunteers jumped to action and started working on capturing the puppies.
When the rescuers approached them, the furbabies started crying. They were afraid of humans.
The mother dog seemed to understand that the volunteers were there to help them. She was calm and trusting despite the ordeal that she and her babies went through.
She walked into the volunteers’ car, feeling relieved that her nightmare was finally over.
Knotty Creek Animal Rescue, a rescue in Oregon, took over the dogs’ care.
The staff and volunteers bathed the canine family, fed them, and took them to the vet where they received medical care.
In the beginning, the puppies were distrustful of everyone because they weren’t used to human interaction, but their new human friends didn’t give up. They knew how to win them over.
“I spent hours out in the kennel with them, reading aloud so they could get used to my voice and the presence of people. Little by little, I got closer, until eventually, I was able to pet them…,” Porter added.
Gradually, the puppies started trusting their caregivers.
Well Deserved Happiness
The furballs loved life in the shelter. They played with toys and enjoyed interacting with their human friends. They began realizing how carefree life can be.
The staff enjoyed watching them thrive and come out of their shells.
The puppies’ transformation was amazing.
From scared and exhausted babies, they blossomed into confident and joyful pups who were ready to take the next important step in their lives – searching for forever families.
The rescue staff carefully examined all the adoption applications, making sure they chose the right home for each pup.
When the mama dog and all her furbabies found their perfect matches, the rescuers were over the moon.
The canine family who was once betrayed by heartless people finally had the endless love they always dreamed of.
