Legendary singer shocks fans with announcement just weeks after cancer diagnosis

Barry Manilow is one tough dude, and all you have to do is check out his Instagram to see it.

The 82-year-old singer announced a month ago that he is battling lung cancer. And, this week, he had another big announcement.

He is adding more shows to his upcoming list of dates.

“SURPRISE!” a post on Manilow’s Instagram page read. “Barry is feeling great … so great that he’s decided to add six additional concerts to his existing March schedule. Barry will now visit Charlotte, Norfolk, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Nashville, and Lexington this March!”

The slate begins on March 1 in Charlotte followed by Norfolk (March 2), Baltimore (March 3), Cincinnati (March 5), Nashville (March 7) and Lexington, Kentucky on March 9.

“Years from now, when you look back on these dates, you’ll want to know you were there to say goodbye,” the announcement added.

Fans loved it.

“Excellent news!!” one person wrote.

“Amazing news!!!!” another wrote. “All the best for you Barry Manilow. Thank God!!!! We love you in Brasil.”

“Great news!” another wrote. “I hope it’s not too fast after your surgery. Please don’t tire yourself out!”

Manilow announced earlier this year that he was undergoing treatment for lung cancer.

“As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks,” he wrote on Instagram. “Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK. The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.

“The bad news is now that the Christmas A Gift of Love concerts are over I’m going into surgery to have the spot removed,” he continued. “The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking test to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

Manilow added that “the only follow-up I a month to recover and that means we have to reschedule the January arena concerts.”

Barry Manilow heading back on tour after cancer surgery, adds 6 dates

Palm Springs resident Barry Manilow is adding six more shows to his tour schedule just weeks after announcing he’s undergoing cancer treatment.

On Jan. 10, Manilow announced on his social media pages that he’s “feeling great” and will add dates to his tour itinerary in Charlotte, Norfolk, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Nashville, and Lexington in March, which are also in addition to dozens of 2026 shows as part of his Las Vegas residency. Tickets went on sale on Tuesday at on.barrymanilow.com/trk/manilow2026.

Manilow, 82, said in a statement that he recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Though he was back on stage afterwards at the Westgate Las Vegas, where he has a long-running residency, his doctor ordered an MRI “just to make sure that everything was OK.”

A release announcing the new dates said Manilow received a stage-one lung cancer diagnosis, but “thanks to the early detection, the operation went well and his medical team is optimistic.”

Manilow also has new music on the way, following the Babyface-produced track “Once Before I Go” released in late 2025.

Barry Manilow and Garry Kief’s Palm Springs connections

Manilow and his husband, Garry Kief, have lived in the desert for more than 25 years. In December, Manilow performed his seventh holiday concert series, “A Gift of Love,” at the McCallum Theatre, benefitting 25 local charities.

“It goes right to each of the charities. I don’t get paid for any of those shows. My band and the crew, of course, does but I don’t because it’s a charity show,” Manilow told The Desert Sun in 2023.

In October, Manilow also attended late Palm Springs philanthropist Harold Matzner’s celebration of life ceremony.
