Twinkle, a petite Chihuahua with an enormous capacity for love, spent her days at the shelter with eyes full of hope, eagerly awaiting someone to notice her and take her to a loving home. Despite her small size, Twinkle’s presence was vibrant, her tail wagging enthusiastically at every visitor, charming all who passed by her kennel.
Initially, Twinkle’s prospects looked promising as a family expressed interest in adopting her. The excitement was palpable—finally, her dream of a forever home seemed about to come true. However, her journey took a sudden turn when, after a few visits, the family decided against the adoption. They were concerned about her compatibility with their other pets, leaving Twinkle to face the reality of remaining in the shelter.
Though disheartened, Twinkle’s resilient spirit shone through. She continued to show affection and playfulness, not losing her hope. The shelter staff, touched by her enduring optimism, stepped up their efforts to find her the right match. They highlighted her story in newsletters and social media, emphasizing her loving nature and the joy she could bring to any home.
Finally, Twinkle’s patience paid off when another visitor, drawn by her story, felt an immediate connection. This time, everything fell into place. The visitor, now Twinkle’s new owner, had no other pets and was looking for a companion to share quiet evenings at home. It was a perfect match.
Twinkle’s adoption day was filled with mixed emotions—joy for her new beginning and heartfelt goodbyes to the shelter staff who had become her extended family. As she left the shelter, her tiny tail wagged more vigorously than ever, a testament to her enduring hope and the love she had to give.

Found wandering the streets of Miami in June 2022, Twinkle was taken in by True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, a shelter known for caring for older dogs and those in dire need. Upon arrival, Twinkle was in poor shape: underweight, with severe dental problems, a skin infection, and hardly any fur. She also needed surgery to remove tumors.
Thankfully, her surgery was successful, and Twinkle quickly recovered. By September, she was healthy and had been adopted by what appeared to be an ideal family.
Unfortunately, just four months after her adoption, Twinkle’s new family returned her to the shelter because she wanted to sleep in their bed, a privilege not extended to their other pets.
“When her parents came to the shelter to surrender her, they handed her over the fence and left,” explained Madison Mulvihill, a social media coordinator at the shelter. “Twinkle was beyond devastated and confused. I remember walking [into] the main dog room to see she was sitting in the corner on a dog bed, closed off and shaking with fear. She looked at you with such confusion on her face and pain in her heart.”
Despite being a well-behaved and affectionate dog, Twinkle found herself once again without a home. The shelter staff were heartbroken.
“Twinkle is not only just adorable, but she has the biggest personality despite being only 3-and-a-half pounds. She loves attention and is not afraid to approach you when she wants to be loved. She is so joyful, and has the cutest little hops when she treads through the grass at the ranch,” added Mulvihill.
Determined to find her a truly loving home, they shared her story in a TikTok video.
A Joyful New Beginning
The video captured hearts across the internet, leading to numerous adoption offers. A family from South Carolina was eventually chosen to give Twinkle her new, loving home.
She now enjoys the comfort of a king-size bed and the company of six fur siblings, with unconditional love and cuddles whenever she desires.
