Two identical twin brothers died after being electrocuted by power lines in Italy.

At around 11:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, April 21, Francesco and Giacomo Fierloni were fatally electrocuted with 20,000 volts while attempting to retrieve a decoy bird from medium-voltage power lines using a metal pole in a wooded area in Magione, Italian outlets La Repubblica and La Stampa reported.

The twins were training pigeon retrievers for hunting season when one of the birds fell onto the 10-meter-high power line, according to the outlets. One of the brothers used a carbon-fibre pole while attempting to get the bird down and touched the live wires on the power line, killing him instantly.

The other brother rushed to help his twin and was also electrocuted.

The 22-year-old twins were found by their father, brother and uncle lying in the same spot, per La Repubblica and La Stampa.

“A tragic event has struck our community. Two 22-year-olds, Francesco and Giacomo Fierloni, twins born in 2003, have lost their lives,” Lagetti wrote alongside a photo of the brothers. “I knew these two men personally; they were wonderful people, both professionally and personally, truly two ‘golden boys.’ ”
