Ellen DeGeneres called out by employees for a toxic work environment
Hollywood stars, employees accused talk show host of having a toxic work environment. Fox News’ Carley Shimkus reports on the accusations against Ellen DeGeneres.
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi reportedly fled the U.S. after President-elect Trump’s successful bid to return to the White House during the 2024 presidential election.
However, prior to the election cycle, DeGeneres claimed on her “Ellen’s Last Stand … Up” tour that she was kicked out of Hollywood “for being mean.”
While prepping for her big Netflix show earlier this year, the comedian traveled the country and told an audience at a gig in Santa Rosa, California, that she had no plans to continue life in show business.
“This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done,” she told the crowd, according to SFGate. “Thank you for still caring! Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens.”
DeGeneres added, “Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean. Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown.”
During the open mic night, she noted how her views of fame had changed since the beginning of her career.
“Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean. Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown.”
“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity,” DeGeneres said. “I am many things, but I am not mean.”
The longtime comedian was rocked by accusations of harboring a toxic workplace at her self-titled program, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” as well as allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior by ousted producers. One producer had also reportedly been at the heart of the complaints of poor workplace culture.
The allegations ultimately led to the end of the show in 2021 after 19 seasons on air. The final episode aired in May 2022.
In her Netflix special, “Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,” DeGeneres addressed being “kicked out of show business.”
“The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind — that was the headline,” DeGeneres said. “Here’s the problem: I am a comedian who got a talk show, and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be kind to one another.’ Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f— yourselves,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”
DeGeneres and de Rossi sold their Montecito, California, home in August, Fox News Digital confirmed with the couple’s relator, Riskin Partners.
The couple had been house hunting in rural England last month, a source told People magazine. “Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October,” the insider claimed. “She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after.”
DeGeneres previously showed support for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the next president of the United States by re-sharing Taylor Swift’s social media endorsement.
“This childless cat lady couldn’t agree more,” DeGeneres wrote, seemingly referencing Vice President-elect J.D. Vance’s previous comments.
Ellen DeGeneres’ UK home floods after she flees US following Donald Trump’s election win: report
Ellen DeGeneres’ new home overseas is reportedly under water.
The former “Ellen DeGeneres Show” host’s mansion in Cotswolds, England, has reportedly been ravaged by floods that have taken over the region.
“The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years,” a local resident told the Daily Mail on Saturday.
According to the outlet, the 43-acre property DeGeneres, 66, shares with wife Portia De Rossi is now surrounded by a swamp-like lake following days of torrential rain and winds of up to 80 mph.

Page Six has reached out to the comedian’s reps for comment but did not immediately hear back. Neither she nor De Rossi, 51, have posted about the bad weather on social media, either.
DeGeneres reportedly moved abroad because she wanted to “get the hell out” of the US after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election.
A source previously told TMZ that the comic and her wife felt “very disillusioned” by the results and so they settled into their home in the UK, which they reportedly bought before the election.
Page Six could not find any recent statements DeGeneres made about why she wanted to leave America.
However, the “Ellen” alum had been a vocal supporter of Kamala Harris leading up to Election Day.
“There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president,” she wrote via Instagram back in August.
DeGeneres and De Rossi had been living primarily in California, where they once also experienced some bad flooding, before fleeing the country.
However, the former talk show host had been somewhat shunned by Hollywood following her 2020 toxic workplace scandal.
In September, she joked about getting kicked out of showbiz in her new Netflix special, which ultimately bombed and was slammed by critics.
Since going over to the UK, DeGeneres appears to be wanting to live a more low-key lifestyle.
Earlier this month, she was spotted sporting a new brunette hairdo while at a pub in England.
Ellen DeGeneres Has Moved to England After Finding ‘a House She Loved’ in the Countryside: Source
The former talk show host and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have recently been spotted out and about in the celeb-favorite Cotswalds region
Ellen DeGeneres has relocated to the English countryside, a source tells PEOPLE.
The former talk show host, whose long-running eponymous series ended in May 2022, has moved abroad after finding a house she fell in love with in the U.K.
“Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October. She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after,” the source says.
Just last week, Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were spotted at The Farmer’s Dog, a pub owned by the English TV presenter and journalist Jeremy Clarkson in the Cotswolds.
“They hung out with [Clarkson’s partner, actress] Lisa Hogan and James Blunt, and The Corrs performed at the pub,” the source adds. A representative for DeGeneres did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
A real estate insider back in California tells PEOPLE that the couple sold their estate in the town of Carpinteria in August for $96 million.
DeGeneres is a well-known collector of multimillion-dollar homes, and owns several properties in Southern California. PEOPLE previously reported she sold a Montecito, Calif. home in May 2024 for $32 million after restoring it and another property in the same town she owned for less than a year in April 2022 for $15 million.
In a 2023 issue of The Riv, a local outlet, DeGeneres shared that she has bought and sold over 50 houses. Some of her other properties include a cottage she listed for $6 million in 2022, and a Malibu home that once belonged to Brad Pitt she purchased for $12 million back in 2011.
“I don’t really travel a lot. So, house flipping is my version of travel,” she shared. “With house flipping, the scenery changes though I stay in the same general area. Only in a new place and from a new perspective.”
The Cotswolds is a popular spot for U.K. celebrities to pick up a country estate. The Beckhams have a home there, as does Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, the artist Damian Hirst, and former British Prime Minister David Cameron.
King Charles’s estate Highgrove House is also located here.
DeGeneres stepped out of the spotlight after nearly 20 years on the air following toxic workplace accusations made against her in 2020. The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which was on the air for 19 seasons, aired its final episode in May 2022.
The entertainer spoke out for the first time in a Netflix comedy special, “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour, in July 2024 and addressed her controversies.
“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” she said. “I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”
When later questioned about whether she would return to fame in the future, now that she has had time to reflect on her mistakes, DeGeneres gave a hard “no.”
“This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done,” she said.
