A few months ago, a dog named Hope found herself in a heartbreaking situation. She’d been raised by backyard breeders, who decided to dump her on the streets of Los Angeles when she didn’t meet their standards.

While Hope was a stray, she met and befriended a husky named Angel, who’d been surviving alone on the streets after his family was deported. The two dogs protected and supported each other for two months before rescuers were able to catch them.

Isabelle Vance, founder of Stacy Hope Rescue, learned about Angel and Hope’s stories and knew immediately that she wanted to help. She learned from people living in the neighborhood where they’d been strays that Hope had been dumped by the breeder she was with because she had an eye condition that required surgery to treat.
“They just left her in the street because she had that condition,” Vance told The Dodo.
Vance brought Hope to a vet, who confirmed that she was dealing with eyelid entropion, a painful but easily treatable condition. She got the surgery she needed and felt much better as soon as it was done.
Stacy Hope Rescue got the pup set up with a foster parent. Hope’s caretaker immediately fell in love with the pup’s affectionate, laid-back personality.
“She is a happy, loving couch potato,” Vance said. “She loves to lay down on the couch or on the bed and just snuggle with you.”
Hope got attached very quickly to her foster parent, but sadly, it was just a temporary situation, and Hope had to say goodbye after a week. Given Hope’s history with being abandoned, what she really needs now is someone who can commit to caring for her long-term.
Hope would do great with a family who’s excited about participating in fun playtime activities — her favorite thing to do is play with a water hose. She’s a little nervous around cats, but would do great in a household with other playful pups.
“She’s so unique, so special, that I see her with a dedicated family that won’t be away for hours,” Vance said.
Vance and everyone at the rescue are heartbroken that Hope has been waiting so long to feel chosen. Still, though, she has stayed true to her name and not given up.
“Her eyes show a sweetness,” Vance said. “She has been abandoned, but she still trusts. It’s amazing — she’s resilient.”
