Michael Henry, Cactus’s human, thought he was just going for a quick gym run. But according to his rescue dog, it was more like a lifetime of solitude. Michael steps into the hallway and calls out, “Where is he?” The greeting he gets from Cactus is essentially a hero’s welcome.
Michael regularly shares his “day to day life with Cactus” on the handle @cactustherescue. This video, for example, shows all the emotions a rescue puppy goes through once his dad is home, even giving him a sweet smile. He shows off a scrunched-up grin that would convince you that he hasn’t seen his human in years.
Rescue puppy can barely contain his excitement after owner comes home
The greeting kicks off at high speed as Cactus rounds the corner. His entire body is wagging with excitement. But the highlight is the “scrunchie face” he makes. He pulls his lips back in a toothy, adorable grin. Then Michael lowers the camera as the pup walks right up to him. Cactus keeps breaking into that signature expression over and over, and it’s the sweetest.
After a quick interrogation about being a good boy, the pair moves to the living room. Cactus is fully invested in the reunion. He refuses to let the short trip dampen his spirits. Michael laughs off-camera as the pup continues to offer those crinkle-nosed smiles. It is hard to tell who is happier. Perhaps it is the dad who finished his workout. Or maybe it is the dog who finally got his person back.
The final scene shows them settling onto the couch for some bonding time. Michael pets him and calls him sweet. Cactus takes a very clear stance against any future departures. And proceeds to wrap his paws firmly around his dad’s hand. Maybe he thinks he’s putting Michael under house arrest.
