Jenna Bush Hager reveals ‘beef’ with TODAY co-host: ‘We weren’t friends’

TODAY star Jenna Bush Hager is holding onto a grudge after discussing her ‘beef’ with her co-star, Savannah Guthrie, on August 20

Why Is Jenna Bush Hager Absent From 'Today'?

Jenna Bush Hager appears to still be holding a grudge against her TODAY  co-star.

The TODAY with Jenna & Friends star, 43, aired her dirty laundry on Wednesday’s show, revealing she is still bitter about not being invited to Savannah Guthrie’s 2014 wedding to Michael Feldman.

Calling out Savannah, Jenna said: “She claims we weren’t friends,” to which an exasperated Savannah replied: “No, we were friends, but it was a small wedding – we can’t do this again.”

While it’s not the first time the duo appears to have had the same argument, Jenna pointed out that they’ve “never done it here on our show.”

To add insult to injury, Savannah was present at Jenna’s wedding to Henry Hager in 2008. However, she was there for work and not as a guest, as she covered the nuptials for NBC, a year before Jenna joined the network.

Savannah admitted that while she and Jenna have had their “beefs” over the years, they are closer than ever now.

“Listen, if we were married today,” Savannah said, “We would be each other’s bridesmaids.”

Savannah previously confessed that she wished she had known that Jenna would become her “lifelong friend,” because then she definitely would have received a wedding invite.

“We did know each other, but we didn’t know each other well,” the 53-year-old recalled in 2019. “If I’d have known that you would become one of my lifelong best friends, then I would have invited you. But I didn’t know that.”

Savannah and Michael, who are now parents to daughter, Vale, 11, and son, Charles, eight, tied the knot on 15 March 2014 outside of Savannah’s hometown of Tucson, Arizona.

Jenna and Henry, who are parents to Mila, 12, Poppy, 10, and Hal, six, tied the knot in front of friends and family at the home of Jenna’s parents, former POTUS George W. Bush and Laura Bush.

The pair wed at her parents’ Prairie Chapel Ranch, near Crawford, Texas, on May 10, 2008, and Jenna honored their 17th wedding anniversary in 2025 on social media with a throwback from the special day.

She posted a photograph of Henry sweetly wiping away her tears at the altar and wrote alongside it: “Been drying my tears for 17 years yesterday!”

Jenna and Henry met while he was working with her father’s presidential campaign, and he has since become her biggest champion. During the rebranding of TODAY’s Fourth Hour as Jenna & Friends, he even made a week-long appearance as her co-host.

Last year on the show, while celebrating her 16th wedding anniversary, she couldn’t help but fawn over her love story with Henry and the family they’d created.

“I feel really lucky to have met somebody that has given me three beautiful little babes,” she gushed. “We’ve created a life together and I’m pretty proud of us.”

She attributed their longevity to their ability to grow together and find joy in each other’s interests, calling her husband “the best.”

“He’s introduced me to all sorts of things that I love. He was an Eagle Scout, so we go hiking together, we do all these things. But what’s cool is we’re both interested in growing, and he’s not the type that’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to go see that show, or I don’t want to do that.’ He’s open and that’s so fun.”

Jenna Bush Hager is a proud mom of three — even when her children don’t always approve of her TV transformations, like when she recently debuted a dramatic new hairdo.

Jenna shares her kids with her husband, Henry Chase Hager. Their daughters, Mila and Poppy, were born in 2013 and 2015, respectively. The couple later welcomed their son, Hal, in 2019.

Over the years, the former first daughter has been candid about her motherhood journey, admitting that “logistics can be difficult” as her family has grown. Today, she devotes herself to “making sure that each child has the love that I know I feel for them.”

While she often gushes about her children on the Today show, Jenna also keeps it real, sharing, “Sometimes I hide from the kids in the pantry and just have a cheese stick.”

Still, she looks for the silver lining in each moment with them. “I try to find the love and the pleasure that I know I have for my kids even in the tedious parts of parenting,” Jenna added.

Here’s everything to know about Jenna Bush Hager’s children: Mila, Poppy and Hal.

Mila, 12

Jenna and Henry welcomed their daughter, Margaret Laura “Mila” Hager, on April 13, 2013.

Her arrival was announced by her grandparents, former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, who shared the happy news on Facebook.

“Laura and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our grandchild, Margaret Laura ‘Mila’ Hager,” Bush wrote, going on to explain the significance of the newborn’s moniker. “Mila, daughter of Jenna and Henry Hager, is named for her grandmothers.”

On the day of Mila’s birth — which was notably three and a half weeks early — Jenna was actually taking an exercise class. “I always have loved to exercise,” she told PEOPLE. “I did SoulCycle the day my daughter Mila was born.”

Over the years, the children’s book author has shared several anecdotes about her oldest, ranging from her daughter’s questions about the birds and the bees to her frankness around Jenna’s beauty routine.

Mila isn’t shy about speaking her mind, as she demonstrated during a surprise visit to the Today show in December 2022, where she aired some of her mom’s dirty — and in some cases, non-existent — laundry.

“One time she was laughing in our living room and she peed her pants!” Mila told co-host Hoda Kotb, after Kotb revealed that she loves most when Jenna laughs uncontrollably. “You changed your pajamas!” Mila added.

She didn’t stop there: After some more cajoling from Kotb, Mila revealed that her mom was going commando (something Jenna has openly discussed). “She never wears underwear! She is not wearing it right now! I saw her change!” Mila added.

For Mila’s 10th birthday, Bush shared cute photos on Instagram of her daughter holding a cat. “Happy birthday to this dream girl who bursted into this world (early and eager!) 10 years ago in front of my friends at my baby shower,” she wrote.

The Today host continued, “Your determined, generous and beautiful soul has made the last decade my happiest! We love you so much Mila. What a gorgeous gift it is to be your Mama.”

Poppy Louise, 10

Jenna and Henry welcomed their daughter, Poppy Louise Hager, on Aug. 13, 2015. She was born in N.Y.C. at 9:12 a.m., weighing 7 lbs., 9 oz. and measuring 20.5 inches upon arrival.

“We are thrilled to announce the birth of our darling daughter,” the parents said in a statement, adding that their second daughter’s name also held family significance.

“Poppy is named after Jenna’s grandfather, George Herbert Walker “Poppy” Bush, a.k.a. Gampy. His nickname growing up was Poppy, and we are proud to name her after a man we so adore,” they explained, adding that her middle name also honored their family. “Louise is in honor of our grandmothers’ middle names, Louise and Lewis. Mom and Poppy are healthy and well.”

The new dad shared, “Jenna was fantastic throughout, and Mila can’t stop talking about her ‘baby sissy.’ ”

Poppy adores her older sister as well, as seen in a hand-drawn loving tribute to Mila, which Jenna showed off on Instagram. “My superhero is Mila because she is kind and nice and she gives me hugs. She gives me love,” she wrote alongside stick figure drawings of the girls.

Although, sometimes feels jealous of her older sister’s privileges — like one time when she caught her mom and Mila watching Enola Holmes in bed after she had already gone to sleep.

“Poppy ran in and said, ‘Why would you do this? Why does she get to watch it?’ And her heart was broken and I did not know what to do,” Jenna admitted on Today.

Talking with Poppy afterward about times she’d felt left out, she said, “‘Poppy, I know that hurt your feelings.’ And she just said, ‘I wish I was older. Why did I have to be the baby sister? Why can’t I ever get the love? Why can’t I ever be seen?’ ”

Luckily, Poppy got to join in on the fun when her parents and Mila went to a Taylor Swift concert together in Foxborough, Mass., in May 2023. In an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, Jenna said the concert was the best she’d ever been to.

“It was so much fun,” Jenna said on the show. “We listened to the playlist [before] so the girls could sing almost every word. … We danced like crazy. It was Poppy’s first concert. … We stayed ’til the end, they were totally enjoying it.”

Rather than talking about “motherhood or marrying,” Jenna’s daughters discuss their future career paths. “I kind of love that maybe because their mom worked — and my mom worked too — that I get up every day and I’m not there to make them breakfast, but they see something different,” she said.

“My biggest dream was to be a mom,” she shared on Today in October 2022. “That’s all I wanted. And my girls, I said to Henry, they have these other dreams.”

Hal, 6

The couple welcomed their third child and first son, Henry Harold “Hal” Hager, on Friday, Aug. 2, 2019. Baby Hal weighed in at 7 lbs., 5 oz. and measured 19.29 inches at birth.

“We are overcome with joy to welcome Henry Harold ‘Hal’ Hager into this world!” Jenna told PEOPLE. Much like his siblings, his name also honors his family members — including his dad.

“He is named Henry after many on his father’s side including his dear dad and his paternal grandfather. Harold comes from my maternal grandfather, Pa, who I loved dearly and was unable to keep a son long enough to name,” she said.

The new mom couldn’t help gushing over her baby boy five months later, telling PEOPLE, “I’m enjoying him so much.” She continued, “I enjoyed all my kids, to be honest, but he is the special little boy and feels slightly different. He feels like this little love, so I’m just adoring him constantly.”

His older sisters feel similarly, with Mila calling him “the baby of our dreams!” according to her mom.

In addition to the love and affection of his immediate family, Hal also has a very special godmother: Jenna’s Today costar Savannah Guthrie.

“I’ve never said this before, but Savannah is Hal’s godmother,” she revealed during an Instagram Live with E! News. “Savannah and I go to the same church. Our faith is really important.”

In August 2023, Hal turned 4. Jenna marked the special day by sharing adorable photos on her Instagram Stories of the little boy hugging her.

During an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, the proud mom celebrated her son again when she talked about a funny conversation they had on the morning of his birthday.

“I FaceTimed him this morning and I said, ‘Hal, do you know in one hour four years ago, you were cut of my tummy?'” the mom of three recalled. “And he goes, ‘Cut out of your tummy?’ ” She then made a disgusted face to mimic her son’s reaction.
