Grazia Weldon tells PEOPLE all about the flight she’ll never forget

Flying with an infant can be tough — but what happens when they’re having a diaper emergency when the pilot has turned the seatbelt sign on?

Grazia Weldon encountered this problem when she was on a plane recently with her baby daughter and husband. The family of three was heading to Disney World when all of a sudden, disaster struck.

“We have traveled with Little Girl since she was 3 weeks old in our camper,” says Weldon. “But the goal of this trip was to get our daughter acclimated to flying, so we booked a direct flight to Disney World.”

“Flying with an infant can be intimidating and everything was going so smoothly, until the pilot announced descent and my husband suddenly shouted, ‘She’s dripping on me!’ ” remembers the mom. “We had a massive diaper blowout while the seat belt sign was mandatory.”

Weldon says they were “panicked.” They couldn’t go to the bathroom, and the seat belt sign was locked on. She remembers having a moment of ingenuity using the materials around her.

“In a moment of sheer desperation, I grabbed the diaper bag, pulled out a roll of Ubbi Disposable Bags, tore two leg holes in them, and slipped Little Girl right inside to contain the mess until we landed,” explains Weldon.

Weldon shared a video of the moment on her TikTok, which has since gone viral. Her daughter can be seen wearing a pink onesie underneath a purple disposable bag.

“When you have a blowout mid-decent on our flight,” Weldon wrote in her caption. “And then have to announce it to the whole plane so they let you go change her after landing.”

“The finale was making a public plea after the wheels stopped: I had to hold her up and announce to the 20 rows behind us, ‘Excuse me! My baby just had a blowout! I need to get to the bathroom, can you all sit down?’ ” Weldon tells PEOPLE. “Everyone was great and let me pass, but I’ll never forget parading Little Girl down the aisle in her improvised travel outfit.”

“Little Girl was a trooper and didn’t make a peep the whole time. It’s a trick I’ll share with every traveling parent from now on,” she adds.
