Harrison Ford went through a dark time with his mental health journey, but a specific college class changed his life for the better.
While attending Ripon College in Wisconsin, the ‘Shrinking’ star was struggling with what he now knows was depression. “I would get up out of my single bed, go to a phone, order a pizza, go back and lay down in bed until the pizza came. I would eat the pizza, throw the wrappers in the corner, go back to sleep,” he told the “Awards Chatter” podcast. “I had a single room and I had classes to go to, but I rarely ventured out. And on the rare occasion I did go to the classroom, I would often touch the door on the outside of the building, and turn around and walk back.”
“I was more than depressed. I think I was ill,” Ford added. “I was socially ill, psychologically not well.”

Of course, this wasn’t a recipe for a good grade point average, so Ford went looking for an easy A when he learned of a class called “drama,” which he thought he’d like based on the description. “It started out in the description talking about reading and analyzing plays,” he recalled. “But I didn’t read the part where it said that you had to actually be in them as well, so that was a surprise. I’d never done anything like that.”
Ford was also surprised by the people he found himself surrounded by in the class. “I was surprised that the people that I had considered to be fellow geeks and misfits were, in fact, some of the most interesting people I knew,” he said. “They were doing something that I hadn’t really understood, and they were telling stories about life, and some of them were exceptional in their capacity to understand human behavior.”

That class was the reason Ford became the actor he is today. “I think I simply found my place amongst storytellers. It really changed my world, changed my life,” he explained.

Does Harrison Ford have Parkinson’s explained as co-star ‘brought to tears’
Harrison Ford, 83, is in good health despite playing a therapist with Parkinson’s disease in Apple TV’s Shrinking, with Michael J Fox praising his authentic portrayal

Viewers of Shrinking are questioning whether Hollywood legend Harrison Ford has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease following the third season opener on Apple TV.
The celebrated cinema icon has brought numerous memorable characters to life throughout his career, including Han Solo and Indiana Jones, as well as Jack Ryan and Jacob Dutton in the Yellowstone series.
Among his most recent roles is Dr. Paul Rhoades, an elderly therapist and gruff mentor to Jimmy Laird (portrayed by Jason Segel) in Apple TV’s acclaimed comedy-drama.
The critically praised show made its return this Wednesday (28th January) with an hour-long episode, continuing to follow Paul as he navigates life after receiving his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
However, some audiences are questioning whether Paul’s narrative reflects a genuine health issue for the cherished film star. Here’s what we understand, reports the Express.

Has Harrison Ford been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease?
No, Harrison Ford does not suffer from Parkinson’s in reality, and the 83 year old screen icon is widely believed to be in good health.
Parkinson’s disease leads to progressive damage in certain brain regions over what can be many years. The condition triggers involuntary tremors, rigid muscles and sluggish movement, whilst also impacting cognitive abilities including memory, mood and sleep patterns.
Ford recently had to withdraw from presenting duties at the 2025 Academy Awards following a shingles diagnosis. Nevertheless, Entertainment Tonight subsequently reported that he was “doing okay and resting at home”.
Ford has maintained his vigour and wellbeing well into his eighties, owing to regular exercise and a balanced diet.

The actor told Ellen DeGeneres in 2020 that he cycles and plays tennis, but doesn’t “work out like crazy”. He also adheres to a diet consisting of fish and vegetables.
Whilst Ford doesn’t actually suffer from Parkinson’s, many have been remarkably impressed with his genuine portrayal of Paul as the character’s condition has progressively deteriorated throughout the most recent two series of Shrinking.
Amongst his admirers is Back to the Future star Michael J Fox, a Parkinson’s campaigner who received his diagnosis in the early 1990s. He appears in a cameo role in Shrinking’s third series premiere as Gerry and recently disclosed that he was “brought to tears” by Ford’s performance.
“That’s one thing that’s amazing about Harrison,” Fox told Vanity Fair. “I don’t have to convince him I have Parkinson’s, but he had to convince me he had Parkinson’s.
“What I wasn’t prepared for was how much of his own understanding of the disease he brought to it.

“I mean, I recognised Parkinson’s in his eyes. The things I was feeling, I recognised in the way he was expressing himself.”
Ford echoed the acclaim, describing Fox as “generous, supportive, open, just a wonderful person”, whilst also being a “pretty goddamn good actor too”.
“It’s a daunting disease and also a daunting job to represent it in an appropriate way. It was a very important experience for me to have,” he added. “Michael is an extraordinarily powerful person.”

Harrison Ford 84th Birthday Thirst Trap Bike Ride Photos
Harrison Ford turned 84 on Monday, July 13, but he was not spending his birthday weekend parked on a couch. The Indiana Jones legend was spotted powering through a solo bike ride in Los Angeles, looking fully prepared to outrun another rolling boulder if necessary.
Fox News got a hold of some thirst-trap snaps of the octogenarian, who tackled the Southern California heat in a white athletic shirt, black cycling shorts, gloves, and a helmet. After finishing the ride, he stripped off his shirt to cool down beside his bike, and proved that even grandpas can thirst-trap with the best of us—even if only accidentally.

The results come from a routine designed for longevity. Ford cycles, plays tennis, and trains with Jaime Milnes, focusing on full-body conditioning and core strength. “I believe in training for injury prevention more than anything else,” he said. “I’m an old fart, and I need to protect myself.”
His diet received an overhaul, too. Ford has eliminated most meat and dairy, opting for vegetables and fish. “I just decided I was tired of eating meat,” he explained. “And I know it’s not really good for the planet, and it’s not really good for me.”
The combination has kept him ready for physically demanding roles in Shrinking and Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 well into his 80s.
Of course, Ford’s status as a late-blooming heartthrob is hardly new. People crowned him Sexiest Man Alive in 1998, when he was 56. At the time, his response was predictably dry: “Why this sudden outpouring for geezers?”
That attitude tracks with an actor who became a superstar almost by accident. Ford was working as a carpenter when George Lucas brought him in to read lines during Star Wars auditions. He walked away with the iconic role of Han Solo, improvised the character’s immortal “I know” in The Empire Strikes Back and spent years pushing for Solo to receive a meaningful death.
Ford finally got his wish in The Force Awakens, but he has no plans to write himself out of Hollywood. Asked whether he intended to retire, Ford answered, “No,” pointing out that movies still need older actors for older roles.

Harrison Ford: ‘I’m Not Retiring’
Actor Harrison Ford, 83, says he has no intention of stepping away from acting, believing the film industry still needs older actors.
In an interview with Variety on July 30, Harrison Ford—famous for his iconic roles in Star Wars and Indiana Jones—said, “What I find attractive about this job is that even as you get older, there are still roles to play because there are characters that need to be portrayed by older people.”
The actor continues to find great joy in acting. Embodying different characters helps him stay active and maintain an optimistic mindset. For Ford, every role is an opportunity to learn, connect with audiences, and help tell meaningful stories.

Despite his age, Harrison Ford maintains a steady stream of projects. He recently appeared in Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World as President Thaddeus Ross and wrapped filming on the third season of Shrinking—the series that earned him his first Emmy nomination.
On set, the actor maintains a positive energy. On the final day of filming Season 3 of Shrinking, he expressed his gratitude to the crew: “You guys are the best in the business. I love this place, I love this job, and I love all of you. I hope we get to come back and do it again.”
Prior to that, Ford starred in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), bringing an end to his more than 40-year journey with the iconic character. In 2017, he starred alongside Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic.
He is one of the few actors who has had the opportunity to work with many of the world’s top directors, including Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, George Lucas, Roman Polanski, and Francis Ford Coppola. In an interview with The Guardian, Spielberg said no one could ever replace Ford as Indiana Jones.
Born in 1942, Harrison Ford is one of Hollywood’s biggest icons, best known for the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Blade Runner franchises, as well as films like The Fugitive and Air Force One. He boasts a massive cinematic legacy with over 60 roles, many of which were box-office blockbusters bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars, pushing his total global box office earnings past $5.1 billion. Beyond his career, he is known for his low-profile lifestyle and deep love for nature. In recent years, Ford and his wife—actress Calista Flockhart—have lived on their private ranch in Wyoming. He devotes his time to environmental conservation and flying planes, a passion he has pursued since the 1990s.

NEED TO KNOW
Harrison Ford is a father to five adult children
He shares his two oldest sons, Benjamin and Willard, with his first wife, Mary Marquardt
His son and daughter Malcolm and Georgia arrived with second wife Melissa Mathison, and later, he would adopt his wife Calista Flockhart’s son Liam
For much of Harrison Ford‘s career, if he wasn’t working on set, he was busy raising kids.
The Indiana Jones star first became a father in the 1960s with the births of sons Benjamin and Willard, whom he shares with his first wife, illustrator Mary Marquardt. Ford was in his early 20s at the time and had yet to begin acting.
He then welcomed son Malcolm and daughter Georgia in 1987 and 1990, respectively, with his second wife, Melissa Mathison. A decade later, Ford adopted his now-wife Calista Flockhart‘s son Liam.
While the large age gaps between all five of his children may not be conventional, the actor has viewed it as an advantage when it comes to his parenting.
“My older children have taught me a lot,” Ford told The Independent in 2010. “My first child was born when I was 25; I reckon I’m a little better at [parenting] now.”
Now that Ford’s children are all grown up, he admitted in a 2023 interview with Esquire that he’d “probably be a better parent” had he been less successful as an actor.
“I accept my flaws and my failures — I don’t accept them, I own them,” he said. “And certainly, the more constant gardener is the better parent, and I’ve been out of town, up my own a–, for most of my life.”
Here is everything to know about Harrison Ford’s kids: Benjamin, William, Malcolm, Georgia and Liam.

Ford’s oldest son, Benjamin “Ben” Ford, was born on Sept. 22, 1966. At the time, Ford had only recently started acting and was still 10 years away from earning his big break as Han Solo in Star Wars.
Ben has a successful career as a chef. He owns the restaurant Ford’s Filling Station and also wrote the cookbook Taming the Feast: Ben Ford’s Field Guide to Adventurous Cooking.
During an appearance on CBS This Morning in 2015, Ben explained that baseball “dominated” his life from his childhood to his early 20s, but after suffering an injury, he found a new career path: cooking.
“When I hurt myself, I got a couple of my mom’s Jacques Pépin videos, some of her kitchen knives and I literally went to San Francisco and started beating at back doors and did it the old fashioned way,” he said of his early culinary days.
As for his personal life, Ben and his ex-wife, Emily Ford, share two sons: Ethan and Waylon. Emily filed for divorce in November 2023 after 14 years of marriage. The divorce was finalized in March 2024.
Willard Ford, 57

Ford and Marquardt welcomed their second child, son Willard Ford, on May 14, 1969.
Like his older brother, Willard also went down a path outside of show business. Willard attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, and earned a B.A. in American studies. He is now an entrepreneur and the owner of Strong Sports Gym, a Los Angeles-based gym, per his LinkedIn. He also previously owned the Kim Sing Theatre, which he used as a showroom and event space.
In 2014, when Willard was selling the L.A. theatre, he shared a little about his work in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “We have done launch events for BMW, Nike as well as corporate events for the Grammys, Pepsi and Star Wars in this place. It’s great for all of that,” Willard explained.
Through Willard, Ford has two more grandchildren: Eliel and Guiliana Ford.
Malcolm Ford, 38

Ford and his second wife, Mathison, welcomed son Malcolm Ford on Oct. 3, 1987.
Like his father, Malcolm works in the entertainment industry, but as a professional musician rather than an actor.
Malcolm was the lead singer of the band The Dough Rollers. During its run, the band opened for acts including Bob Dylan and Queens of the Stone Age. And Malcolm wasn’t the only child of an actor in the group — his bandmate, Jack Byrne, is the son of Ellen Barkin and Gabriel Byrne.
Speaking to Interview Magazine in 2013, Malcolm discussed the music he grew up listening to as a kid.
“I didn’t grow up with music in the house, like every kid had ‘Blackbird’ playing when they got home from school or something. My mom would have Wagner on sometimes, but I got into punk music first,” he shared. “My first cassette was Green Jellÿ. That was the band I was really into.”
Georgia Ford, 36
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/harrison-ford-kids-georgia-2-0ee3f659565e44ecb47267dd36bed839.jpg)
Ford’s fourth child, and only daughter, is Georgia Ford. Ford and Mathison welcomed Georgia on June 30, 1990. Georgia followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued a career in acting. She has had roles in the 2013 film American Milkshake, 2015’s True Story and the 2020 anthology of short films I’m Being Me.
While Ford and his children keep pretty private, he did speak about Georgia at NYU Langone Medical Center’s Find a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures (FACES) event in 2016. In his speech, Ford teared up while sharing that Georgia suffered from seizures as a child, adding that it took years for her to be properly diagnosed with epilepsy. After she was finally diagnosed, her doctor “prescribed the right medication and therapy; she has not had a seizure in eight years.”
The dad of five told NY Daily News of his daughter at the event, “I admire a lot of things about her. I admire her perseverance, her talent, her strength. She’s my hero. I love her.”
Ford later auctioned off his iconic Han Solo jacket for epilepsy research in honor of Georgia in March 2016. That same month, the father-daughter duo were spotted bonding over lunch in New York City.
Liam Flockhart Ford, 25

Ford’s youngest child is Liam Flockhart Ford. Flockhart adopted Liam — born in 2001 — before she began dating Ford, and the actor later adopted him as well.
In an interview with Reader’s Digest when Liam was 7, Ford shared how grateful he was for the opportunity to raise another child.
“My youngest, other than Liam, is 17,” he said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child’s growing up, which is always an endless springtime. You see the blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff. Being a parent made me just a bit less self-centered.”
He added that he was grateful for Flockhart as well, saying, “She’s brought a child back into my home.”
In 2020, Ford and Flockhart were seen dropping him off at college, and he arrived in a very different way from his classmates — his dad flew him to school on his own private plane.
Ford is known to fly, but there was one intimidating activity that he said Liam pushed him to try. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the 1923 actor shared that he went skydiving because Liam “wanted to do it.” He added, “But it was fun, it was great. I did like it.”
Ford said they were talking about going again, noting that they were “not talking to his mother about it.”
