On February 2 at approximately 11:39PM, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers assigned to Harry Reid International Airport were called to Terminal 3 following reports of a dog left behind at the JetBlue ticket counter.

According to police, the animal had been tied to a metal carry-on baggage sizer after its owner was denied boarding.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement: “On February 2, 2026, at approximately 11:39PM, LVMPD officers assigned to Harry Reid International Airport responded to Terminal 3 after receiving reports of a dog that had been tied to a metal carry-on baggage sizer and left behind at the JetBlue ticket counter.

“Airline staff advised the dog’s owner she was required to complete online documentation in order to travel with the animal as a service dog. When the required paperwork was not completed, the passenger was denied a boarding pass. She then left the dog behind and proceeded through the airport to the departure gate.”

Airline employees had informed the woman that she needed to complete online documentation in order to travel with the animal as a service dog. When she did not complete the paperwork, she was refused a boarding pass.

Instead of resolving the issue at the counter, she made her way through the airport toward the departure gate.

Video later shared by the police department showed the approximately two-year-old golden doodle/mini poodle mix sitting at the counter, appearing confused as travellers moved around it.

Officers eventually located the woman at the gate. When approached, she showed little interest in cooperating.

“I’m gonna throw my bags down because I’m exhausted,” she said.

An officer responded firmly: “No, what we’re gonna do is walk you back to where your dog’s at and give you a citation, because you left your dog at the ticket counter.”

The woman insisted she was attempting to rebook her flight. But officers were unconvinced.

“So you walk down here? To rebook your flight? And left your dog there?”

During questioning, she claimed the airline would not let her board with the dog and said the animal had a tracking device, suggesting it would be able to find its way back to her.

Police said that as officers escorted her back through the security checkpoint, she became combative and resisted detention.

She was arrested and booked on charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest, Live Now FOX reports.

While she was being processed, airport employees and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers cared for the dog.

Animal Protective Services later took custody of the animal.

After the mandatory 10-day hold period expired and the owner did not reclaim it, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas assumed care.

The dog has since been renamed “Jet Blue” and is now safe in foster care, awaiting adoption.

According to authorities, the traveller has not been identified publicly and has made no attempt to reclaim the goldendoodle. Now, “Jet Blue” is expected to be placed in a permanent home soon.
