Just because a dog looks intimidating and resembles a giant doesn’t mean it’s immune to fear. Quite the contrary! Giant dogs can be extremely traumatized just as any other, and Bobby is Exhibit A.
When this sweet pup was first brought to the Pennsylvania shelter, he was more than defeated. He was literally frozen in the back of his tiny kennel, completely shutting down from the world.
Bobby had been let down by his person. After “serving his purpose” at a commercial breeder, he was simply thrown away. This dog never felt what it was like to have friends, meet new people on daily outings, or enjoy a nice routine. All he knew was neglect.
Fortunately, that was all about to change.
Shelter Environment Overwhelms Him

Thanks to the Animal Law Enforcement Team at Main Line Animal Rescue, Pennsylvania, Bobby, a Norwegian Elkhound, was timely saved from a reckless breeder.
At two years of age, he was brought to the shelter for the first time – and it was far from pretty! The overcrowded environment took a toll on Bobby, and he instantly retreated to the back of his kennel, freezing from fear.
“This sweet, docile 2-year-old Norwegian Elkhound is so gentle that the chaos of the shelter overwhelms him completely,” the Pennsylvania shelter wrote in the video they posted on their social media.

Despite his giant body, Bobby was the gentlest soul. He was in constant fear that someone might hurt him, which caused him to shake uncontrollably.
“Bobby is a quiet soul who wants nothing more than to be calm and loved. The noise, the constant movement, the unfamiliar faces—it’s all so much for him,” the rescue adds.
The MLAR video of Bobby in his kennel went viral in no time.

His heartbreaking look toward the door prompted hundreds of people to empathize with his situation.
As a result, Bobby’s story touched many hearts, which led to an amazing update.
The Greatest Update

The MLAR team did everything in their power to shed light on Bobby’s case. They explained that Bobby’s ideal home would be one where he could rest and be understood at his own pace.
“He deserves a home where he can rest in peace, a family that will be patient and understanding as he learns to trust again. Bobby doesn’t need a lot—just the kind of environment where he can feel safe and slowly open up,” MLAR wrote.
Not long after the shelter’s plea, Bobby’s perfect match showed up at the shelter’s doorstep! His adopters, who already owned a Norwegian Elkhound, couldn’t wait for this dog to start a new chapter of his life.
Bobby couldn’t be happier after realizing his new family was finally taking him home.
Many sleepless nights and hundreds of heartbreaks later, Bobby was finally where he was supposed to be – in a loving home surrounded by the family who loved him unconditionally.
Today, this gentle giant gets to experience many exciting adventures with his new doggo sibling, far from that tiny kennel.
Happy life, Bobby! You deserve it.
