While going about her day one sunny afternoon, a woman named Desi noticed a little pup lying motionlessly in the middle of the street.
After deciding to approach the sweet dog, they noticed that she didn’t have any fur! Luckily, the woman had some yummy treats in her bag and was able to give it to the pup so that she could feed her hungry belly.
She also believed that this would help her gain the pup’s trust so that she could put a leash around her neck. Unfortunately, things weren’t as simple as they seemed.
Rescue Mission
When Desi got too close to the pup, it spooked her and caused her to run away into an abandoned storage unit.
“Something really strange happened. She went into a building. We found her in a cardboard box. I guess it was her safe space,” Desi told The Dodo.
While she was cuddled up in the box, Desi managed to get a leash around her head. But the pup got scared and tried to fight it off. After a while, she managed to calm down, allowing Desi to pick her up and take her straight to the vet.
Even though her day completely turned upside down, Desi was more than happy to be the change this doggo so desperately needed.
One Day At A Time
After a head-to-tail medical evaluation, the vets determined that the pup had blood parasites in her body. She also had pretty severe mange, causing her to become completely hairless.
So, after placing her on all the necessary medication, the pup, now named Piggy, was finally ready to begin her recovery journey.
“After the vet, she moved into our puppy house. And she became such a different dog. It started with me. She was so obsessed with me. Sometimes to a point where it gets a little annoying because she wants a lot of attention,” said Desi.
But that love and attention were exactly what she needed for her to start feeling and looking better. After a month, this doggo was completely unrecognizable.
Her fur grew back and she became an adorable, white princess.
“Every time I see her, I can’t believe that she used to be scared of humans!” she added.
Now, Piggy is looking for her very own forever home! She is up for adoption and can’t wait to continue her journey in the warm embrace of a loving family.
“Piggy is gentle, playful, and super friendly with other dogs… She’s great with kids and loves playing with them, making her the pawfect new best friend for the little ones,” a shelter wrote on an Instagram post.
So, if you are interested in adopting this sweet girl, feel free to contact the shelter for more information. I am pawsitive you won’t regret it!
