I’ve read a lot of rescue stories lately, but this one stands out in particular because of how wholesome it is.
Life can be particularly rough for stray dogs on the streets of California. People rarely help them, and they have to scavenge as much as they can to survive every day.
These sweet pups were in the same situation. Their life revolved around a van, where they would spend most of their time unless they were looking for food.
However, they are lucky that a group of amazing rescuers found them and decided to help them get a fresh new start.
A Difficult Rescue Mission
When the rescuers from Hope For Paws arrived at the particular location in California where the dogs lived, they started looking for them. They looked under a van to see if they were hiding there.
As it happens, the pups were very timid and didn’t really trust people. One of them was pregnant, and there were signs that she was going to give birth soon.
Now, the rescuers realized they had to figure out a way to help them fast. There was a good chance that the dogs wouldn’t cooperate much, so they had to get creative.
Because they were hiding under the van, the rescuers enclosed the area around them, so they had nowhere to escape.
They then focused on helping them out. The dogs were very reluctant, so the kind people took out their lucky leash and tried placing it on them.
The first dog, now named Shelby, was the first to take the bait, and they were able to secure him.
As for M’Lynn, it wasn’t so easy.
They had to nudge her forward a bit with food, which also didn’t work, so they kept trying with the leash. Eventually, they were able to calm her down enough to finally secure her.
Now that both dogs were safe, the amazing rescuers rushed them immediately back to their shelter.
A New Start For Shelby And Her Babies
They realized that Shelby was going to give birth very soon, so they groomed her fur and gave her a bath. They also fed her first so she would have enough strength.
Because she was so malnourished, the rescuers feared for the health of the puppies and weren’t sure if they were all going to make it.
Soon enough, Shelby was in labor. She gave birth to 6 puppies, but unfortunately, one of them didn’t make it.
