Pup Chained To Tree Was Days From Giving Birth — Then A Hero Arrived

Just off a rural road in the woods outside Brunswick County, Virginia, a sweet pup named Hope recently found herself pregnant, hungry and hopelessly trapped. Hope was tied to a tree, fastened by a thick chain around her neck. She needed a hero — and fast.

 

 

When an outdoorsman eventually spotted Hope, he knew he had to help. He called local animal control authorities, who headed to the scene and brought Hope to the safety of a nearby shelter, where she very quickly gave birth to eight healthy puppies.

 

 

Hope and her puppies needed a comfortable place to grow and recuperate. Luckily, they soon connected with Lori, a foster parent with Augusta Dog Adoptions, who welcomed the pup into her home.

“Hope is settling in beautifully and living up to her name every single day,” Lori told The Dodo. “From the moment she arrived, she showed herself to be incredibly sweet, gentle and devoted. She’s protective of her little family — as any good mama should be — and her puppies are thriving and growing like little butterballs under her care.”

 

 

A pet foster parent with 15 years of experience, Lori knows better than anyone that fostering is not always easy. But with Hope, everything has been smooth sailing.

“This mother in particular has been the most loving and appreciative dog ever,” Lori said. “You could tell from the moment she came to me, she couldn’t be happier and [more] relieved to be in a warm environment with good food and safe with her babies. I just love this dog.”

 

Hope and her puppies will stay with Lori until they’re ready to begin searching for their permanent homes. The resilient mama doesn’t need to merely survive anymore — she can thrive.

“We’re keeping an eye on her weight, and [we’re] hopeful she’ll start gaining soon, now that she’s in a calm, caring environment with steady meals and lots of love,” Lori said. “Hope is a wonderful girl with a tender heart, and it’s been amazing to see her confidence grow a little more each day.”

 

 

Dog Found Chained In The Woods And Just Days From Giving Birth – Her Life Looks Very Different Now

Hope’s story began in the most heartbreaking way.

Deep in the woods outside Brunswick County, Virginia, a pregnant dog was found chained to a tree along a rural road. Hungry, frightened, and unable to escape, Hope desperately needed someone to notice her.

Thankfully, an outdoorsman did. After spotting the trapped dog, he contacted local animal control officers, who rushed to help. Hope was brought to the safety of a nearby shelter, and not long after her rescue, she gave birth to eight healthy puppies.

 

From there, Hope’s life began to change. She and her newborn pups were welcomed into the home of Lori, an experienced foster parent with Augusta Dog Adoptions. There, Hope finally had what every mother deserves — warmth, safety, steady meals, and a secure place to raise her babies.

Although Lori has spent 15 years fostering dogs, Hope left a special impression on her.

As Hope’s puppies grew, so did Hope’s confidence. The dog who once struggled just to survive was finally learning what it felt like to be loved.

And now comes the happiest chapter of all.

Five months after being rescued, Hope has officially found her forever home.

Her new mom had previously adopted another dog from the rescue many years ago — a beloved companion who recently passed away at the remarkable age of 14. When she learned about Hope’s journey and everything she had overcome, she knew she wanted to give her the life she deserved.

Today, Hope is settling into her new family and embracing the future that once seemed impossible.

As her new mom shared: “I wanted to update you on Hope. She is doing great! She is getting comfortable in her new home and showing her personality more, she loves everyone, especially my grandpa.”

Hope survived cruelty that left both physical and emotional scars. She also tested positive for heartworm disease and still has treatment ahead of her. But thanks to the people who rescued her, fostered her, trained her, donated, shared her story, and never gave up on her, Hope’s future is now filled with love instead of uncertainty.
