A terminally ill mother is expressing her gratitude after receiving thousands of cards ahead of what could be her final Christmas.
Having found out that her bowel cancer was no longer responding to chemotherapy, on Monday, Dec. 1, Clare Jones penned a Facebook post asking her friends to make this year’s festivities “super special.”
The mom of three, 47, from Swansea, Wales, was diagnosed with cancer in May 2022, but it wasn’t until recently that she was told she has around 10 months to live, the BBC reported.
“I’m a simple person who likes simple things 🤣I love Christmas cards!!! I would love to have lots of cards this year!!! So I’m asking you kindly, when you are doing your cards could you pop an extra one in the post for me? 🙏 🤞😘🎅,” Jones wrote on Facebook alongside her address.

Jones expected that she would receive no more than an extra 15 cards from friends, but once her post went viral with over 10,000 shares, she was bombarded with well-wishes.
Gifts such as chocolates, theater tickets and even camper trips have been offered alongside the hundreds of Christmas cards she’s received, per the BBC.
“Someone even offered me a night with them,” Jones told the outlet. “I said, ‘That’s very kind of you, but no thank you.’ “
Before her diagnosis, Jones thought her symptoms were the result of a “dodgy belly” and delayed seeing a doctor. She then had an operation to remove an 18-inch tumor in 2022.
A year later, she was told the bowel cancer had developed to stage four after spreading to her lymph nodes and lungs. The mom was undergoing chemotherapy to shrink the cancer until it stopped responding in November of this year.
Jones has raised her three children — Summer, 16, Sami, 22 and Finley, 20 — independently at her home for the past 10 years, per the BBC.
Recalling telling her kids this year could be her last Christmas, she said, “How do you tell them that? My daughter doesn’t believe it.”
Jones confessed that she was initially hesitant to make her Facebook post because she didn’t want to be perceived as “cheeky.”
She has since received amusing messages and even children’s handmade cards from across the world that have touched her entire family.
“There has just been so much to read,” she told the BBC, adding, “The love has been amazing… genuine love.”
The mom said she is aiming to respond to each person and is saving all of the stamps to send to a bone cancer charity that resells them as a fundraiser.
“I don’t feel ill, I feel okay. But I’m not going to feel this way for much longer,” Jones said, per the BBC. “I have many people around me who care for me. If love could cure cancer, I would be cured.”
