Celine Dion shared an emotional tribute on Instagram on June 2 when she paid tribute to a man she called “wonderful,” and “generous.”

Celine — who duetted with Peabo for Disney’s Beauty And The Beast — wrote: “I’m heartbroken to heart that we lost Peabo Bryson today. His incredible voice and his kind spirit embodied the beauty of song and performance.”

She reflected on their 1991 collaboration for the Disney movie and said: “He made me so comfortable, as I was just learning to sing in English. He will remain for me always as a real symbol of joy that music has brought to my life. His voice and talent will be missed.

“My heart is with your family, and may you rest in peace Peabo. Love, Celine xx.”

Peaceful death

A statement from Peabo’s representative said he “transitioned peacefully.”

His family added: “We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”

Working with Celine

Peabo remembered working with Celine and later recalled to CBC:“When you’re a great singer like [Céline], oftentimes you find yourself in situations where you have to dial back.

“I learned that from doing duets. The key to it is to play to your duet partner’s strengths and weaknesses equally. So essentially that renders into a situation where there are no weaknesses because you’re playing to them both equally.”

“I looked across at her, and she looked back at me, and what went on from the point of becoming relaxed was extremely intimate,” he added. “You can’t buy that. You can record it, though.”

Celine Dion has announced on her 58th birthday that she will return to performing with a series of shows in Paris starting September 2026.
After years away from the spotlight battling a debilitating neurological condition, Celine Dion is ready to reclaim the stage.

On Monday, she announced the news of her comeback, calling it “the best gift” on her birthday.

Addressing fans in a video released on social media, the 58-year-old Canadian singer said her condition had improved and she would perform a series of shows in the French capital.

Dion is set to perform 10 shows over five weeks at the Paris La Defense Arena beginning on 12 September.

“This year, I’m getting the best birthday gift of my life. I’m getting the chance to see you, to perform for you once again,” she said.

“I want to let you know that I’m doing great, managing my health, feeling good.”

Dion first disclosed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, an incurable autoimmune disorder.

The Quebec-born star was forced to cancel the remainder of her shows indefinitely.

Treatment can help alleviate symptoms of the condition that can cause stiff muscles in the torso, arms and legs.

The 2024 documentary “I Am: Celine Dion” provided an intimate look at the charismatic performer’s career and the severity of her pain from the condition, including suffering a seizure.

Despite the diagnosis, Dion vowed she would fight her way back to the stage.

“I’m not dead,” the singer told reporters in 2024 on the red carpet ahead of the premiere of the documentary.

Later that year Dion sang from the Eiffel Tower for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony, while athletes sailed down the river in pouring rain.

Nearly 40 years of spotlight
Dion was launched onto the global stage in 1988 representing Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin.

Then aged 20, she sang “Ne partez pas sans moi” (Don’t Leave Without Me), which won her the prize.

The following year, Dion opened the TV extravaganza for host Switzerland with her winning French-language song.

She then premiered the single “Where Does My Heart Beat Now” — heralding her career switch into English, which set her on the path to global chart domination.

She has sold more than 260 million albums during a career spanning decades, and has won five Grammys – two for “My Heart Will Go On”, the hit song from the 1997 epic “Titanic”.

On Monday, Dion told fans that she has continued to feel their support despite her years off stage.

“Even in my most difficult times, you were there for me. You’ve helped me in ways that I can’t even describe, and I’m truly so fortunate to have your support,” she said, describing that she was now “singing again, even doing a little bit of dancing.”

The Fairy-Tale Marriage of Diva Celine Dion and Her Partner 26 Years Her Senior

Through sacrifice and companionship spanning more than 20 years, diva Celine Dion and her husband, René Angélil, who was 26 years her senior, wrote a beautiful love story, becoming an enduring symbol of love in the international entertainment industry.

Celine Dion is one of the divas with the most brilliant careers in the global music industry. She once admitted she was very anxious when accepting a romantic relationship with René Angélil, a man who was not only 26 years older than her but had also been through two previous marriages. However, their sincerity, companionship, and enduring love overcame all prejudices and became a beautiful legend in the entertainment world.

A Talented Vocalist with a Illustrious Career

Celine Dion (born in 1968) grew up in a small town in Québec, Canada, as the youngest child in a family of 14 siblings. Both of her parents loved music and formed a family band early on, taking their children to perform from the time Celine was very young.

At the age of 5, Celine sang in front of the public for the first time at her older brother’s wedding. By the age of 12, she composed her debut song, Ce n’était qu’un rêve, with the assistance of her mother and brother. The recording was sent to music manager René Angélil—the man who would later become her husband.

Believing absolutely in the talent of the 12-year-old girl, René Angélil mortgaged his own home to produce her debut album, La Voix du bon Dieu. In 1982, Celine won the Gold Medal at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Japan when she was just 14 years old, and only one year later, she became the first Canadian artist to achieve a gold certification in France.

Over the following years, Celine Dion’s career continuously soared. From The Power of Love and Falling Into You to My Heart Will Go On—the legendary theme song from the film Titanic—the female singer consecutively broke sales records and won a series of prestigious awards, including Grammys and Oscars.

While at her peak, Celine Dion unexpectedly paused her career to care for her husband, who was battling cancer. In 2003, she returned with her residency show, A New Day…, in Las Vegas, grossing over $400 million and opening up a new trend in the performance industry.

A Romantic Love Story Conquering All Prejudices

René Angélil met Celine Dion for the first time when she was just 12 years old. In 1987, the two began dating secretly and only made their relationship public after five years. In the dedication of her album The Colour of My Love, Celine wrote: “René, you are the color of my love.”

The female singer once feared the public’s reaction to a relationship with a 26-year age gap. However, she affirmed that love helped both of them overcome all prejudices. In 1994, Celine Dion and René Angélil held their wedding at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, which was broadcast live across Canada.

The marriage initially did not receive support from Celine’s family, but to her, René was always a wonderful man, someone who had sacrificed everything to nurture her career from the very beginning.

“The first time, when I told my mother that I had strong feelings for René, she tried everything to ‘kill’ him and make me give up. At first, I was very frustrated and angry, but my mother tried to make me understand that this man had been married twice, had three children, and was irresponsible,” Celine recalled.

In 1998, René Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer. Celine Dion decided to pause her work to care for her husband. After he recovered, the couple welcomed their first son in 2001 and twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, in 2010.

In 2013, the cancer returned. Celine once again put her career on hold to be by her husband’s side. René Angélil passed away in 2016 at the age of 73, leaving a profound sense of loss for the female singer.

“I lost the love of my life at the age of 48. I miss him most when he was healthy and happy, not the days and months he had to endure pain. I could not hold onto him out of selfishness. You have to learn to let the person you love go,” Celine Dion shared.

A month after her husband’s passing, Dion returned to the Las Vegas stage and delivered an emotional performance at the Billboard Music Awards, where she was honored with the Icon Award. Throughout her career, Celine Dion has won 254 awards and received 536 nominations, with a net worth of approximately $800 million.

Two years after the day her husband passed away, Celine announced the cancellation of her shows at Caesars Palace to mourn René. “Watching your husband suffer for three years is not something you want to see. Now I know he is at peace, and we live with him in a different way. I see him every day through the eyes of my children,” the female singer confided.

Since her beloved husband passed away, Celine has not dated anyone and always keeps her deep love for René in her heart. In an interview in 2019, the female singer confessed: “I still miss his scent, his embrace, and the way he made me laugh. When I leave the stage, the fans have gone home, and I return to the hotel. I have no one to talk to at night. René will always be with me.”

Recently, marking exactly 10 years since her husband passed away, the female singer wrote on her personal page: “My love, 10 years without you, it feels like only a day has passed, but it also feels as though every day is as long as an entire decade. 10 years without your affectionate embraces, but every day I still feel that you are present.” The famous vocalist also posted an accompanying portrait of her late partner René Angélil on a black piano.

Not only Celine, but their three children also sent messages to their father. The post was accompanied by a message from their eldest son, René-Charles Angélil (25 years old), and twin sons Nelson and Eddy (16 years old). “We miss you more than we can bear. But it was you who taught us to be strong. We love you more through each passing day, each passing year,” the children wrote.

A Powerful Journey After Loss

Following her husband’s passing, Celine Dion returned to the stage, continuing to perform and care for her children. However, adversity did not stop there, as in 2022, she publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome—a rare disease that severely affects mobility and singing ability.

The rare disease has caused her much physical pain and the fear of being unable to return to singing. However, Celine has never broken down. Although the illness is incurable, the Canadian diva has persistently pursued treatment and physical therapy. At the end of 2024, she moved audiences deeply when she returned to the stage, receiving powerful support from global audiences.

Currently, Celine Dion lives a private life, dedicating her time to her family and her health. Facing many challenges, the Canadian diva still holds onto the hope of being able to continue singing, just as she has resiliently overcome every adversity over the past four decades.
