The Prince and Princess of Wales have treated themselves to a weekend away in Scotland without their children.

William and Catherine, both 42, spent a few days at Balmoral, the monarch’s private Highland estate.

The Mail understands that their young brood, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis remained in Berkshire.

The couple were seen at church today with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

A still-bearded William drove himself and his wife to nearby Crathie Kirk, the Princess country casual in a favourite hat with a feather and a tweed coat.

However she accessorised this with an eye-catching £2,780 pair of Cassandra Goad Temple of Heaven earrings she has worn on several occasions previously.

It is the first time the Princess has been seen in public since the good news that she has finished her course of preventative chemotherapy following her health scare earlier this year.

Catherine has stressed, however, that her health and staying ‘cancer free’ remain her priority, as does her young family.

She has announced she will begin to undertake a small number of public duties, and last week held her first major meeting at Windsor Castle of her Early Years initiative that was documented in the Court Circular.

The couple, who also visited Scotland over the summer with their family, will no doubt have revelled in the relaxed outdoors lifestyle the Royal Family enjoy on Royal Deeside.

It will also have given them the chance to catch up with Charles and Camilla ahead of their big tour to Australia and Samoa next month.

The King adores his daughter-in-law and they have both provided each other with emotional support during their respective cancer treatments this year.

The king is still undergoing weekly treatment for an unspecified form of the disease.

She was joined by members of her household team as well as representatives from her Centre for Early Childhood at Kensington Palace.

It was formally recorded in the Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements, which read: ‘The Princess of Wales, Joint Patron, The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, this afternoon held an Early Years Meeting at Windsor.’

It was the first meeting noted in the Court Circular since the princess held a round table of her Royal Foundation on December 6 last year.
