A few months ago, The Animal Foundation (TAF) staff took in a tiny puppy, who instantly broke their hearts. They’d rescued many sick and injured pets in the past, but this 8-pound pug shocked them all when she arrived with no fur and inflamed, red skin.
“She’s only a year old, and in unimaginable pain,” TAF wrote on Facebook. “Her tiny, malnourished 8 lb body is cracked, bleeding, and raw.”

The little puppy, whom TAF named Talulah, was covered in mange, leaving her body hairless and bright pink with pain. The poor girl was desperately uncomfortable.
“She’s itchy, swollen, and shivering from the pain,” TAF wrote. “She can barely stand. She can’t play. She’s a shell of a dog, but she wants to feel better.”
You can see more pictures of Talulah when she first arrived at TAF here:

Talulah’s mange was one of the most severe cases the shelter staff had ever seen. But thankfully, they knew just how to help the pup. and soon sent her to a medical foster home with an extensive treatment plan.
Her new temporary mom, Amber, had previously fostered nearly 400 TAF animals, was the perfect match to help her heal.
“She’s getting medicated baths, mousse treatments to soothe her skin, antibiotics to fight the infection, and pain medication to give her some much-needed relief,” TAF wrote. “Mange is caused by microscopic mites. It’s treatable, but her recovery will take weeks …”

After just one week of consistent care, Talulah’s health started to improve, and her black hair began to grow back.
“Her skin is healing, her tail’s wagging, and her sass is starting to show,” TAF wrote on Facebook.

By the two-week mark, Talulah’s cracked skin smoothed over, and she stopped showing signs of pain or discomfort.
“Talulah is wiggly, curious, and looking great!” TAF wrote on Facebook. “No longer red and itchy, Talulah can now begin to heal. She’s still with her devoted foster family, getting baths, medication, and lots of kisses.”

After three weeks, Talulah was a completely different dog. She became more rambunctious and active. And as her hair continued to grow, so did the smile on her face after a successful play session with her foster siblings.
Her rescuers were stunned by her progress.
“It’s unbelievable,” TAF wrote on Facebook. “And this is only the beginning.”

Talulah surpassed all of TAF’s expectations. And in late September, almost two months after her rescue, Talulah received the best surprise of all: a forever family.
“Now known as Wednesday, this once tiny, hairless pup is doing incredible in her forever home,” TAF wrote in a Facebook update. “Today, Wednesday looks like a completely different dog. She’s cuddly, sassy, and now has two tortoise siblings, Herbie and Pie.”

Talulah, now Wednesday, has completely transformed since she arrived at TAF, and her rescuers couldn’t be happier for her. Once in “itchy agony,” Wednesday is finally living the carefree life she’s always dreamed of, and her new family couldn’t love her more.
“I think our favorite part is how sassy she is. When she’s in the mood to snuggle, she’s also a little cuddle bug,” Wednesday’s mom, Annette, said in a message to TAF later shared on Facebook. “She’s brought so much joy into our house.”
