When a little Pug puppy was discovered on a roof, the sight baffled everyone. No one had a clue how he got there! The puppy, alone and frightened, was unable to find a way down and lay there waiting for rescue. The community quickly showed its compassion; a resident of the apartment complex immediately contacted the Austin Animal Center in Texas for assistance. Responding without delay, Staci Figueroa and Erica Cerza, animal protection officers, were on the scene in no time. They were puzzled about how the puppy had ended up on the roof, learning that he had wandered through a hallway and out onto the roof through the railings.
The situation was precarious — the puppy was near a small, gaping hole in the metal roof, and any sudden movement could cause him to fall through. This made rescue efforts much more challenging. Understanding the urgency, Staci and Erica acted swiftly. With assistance from a resident, they removed a picket from the fence adjacent to the roof using a screwdriver, simplifying their task. Once they had a clear path, Cerza carefully reached for the puppy.
After being rescued, the puppy rested peacefully in Cerza’s arms, showing no signs of distress but clearly bewildered. Shortly after, he began to relax more, even playfully tugging at Cerza’s hair. Following the rescue, the apartment complex’s management was asked to notify residents about the found puppy in case he belonged to someone. Unfortunately, no one claimed him. He was then taken to the facility for further care and was named Wicket.
In just a few days, Wicket blossomed, revealing his playful and affectionate nature. His charm quickly won over hearts, and it wasn’t long before he was adopted into a loving home. Now, Wicket spends his days embarking on new adventures and receiving the love he deserves, far from the precariousness of his past. His life is now filled with the joy and security every dog hopes for.
