It’s a special dog that gets to spend her Gotcha Day surrounded by toys, family, and a fan club of tiny humans who she seems convinced belong to her. Over on @sweetmilliemomma, a sweet video looks back at just how far Millie has come since arriving as a frightened puppy mill survivor who barely knew what to do with kindness. Today, the rescue Golden Retriever mama spends her days chasing red balls, splashing through water, and keeping a watchful eye on the babies in her life.

The footage starts with a throwback clip from her actual rescue day. Millie looks visibly exhausted and is panting heavily in the backseat from severe anxiety. Her bio explains that she spent years being used purely for breeding without any positive human contact. In fact, she didn’t even know how to eat food out of a normal bowl. Her new foster parents even had to give her medicated baths because her fur was filled with fleas.

But she learned incredibly fast that she was finally safe with her foster parents, who eventually adopted her. She started watching television to pass the time and used shallow lake water as a form of therapy.

Somewhere along the way, this gentle mama apparently decided that children are just oversized puppies, and honestly, it’s hard to argue with her logic. The video shows a toddler crawling right into her crate to rest their head against her soft fur. The sweet rescue Golden Retriever acts like a proud mama who just wants to protect her new human babies.

Her absolute favorite thing in the world is a bright red ball. She happily lunges into the water to fetch it and even plays with it inside a ball pit. The clip took over social media, pulling in over 88.5k likes from emotional fans. Living a life filled with endless toys and freedom is exactly what this brave girl earned.

The Golden Retriever, whose name is Laken, was happy to be right in the middle of all those shenanigans with the human siblings. If Laken could laugh like a human, we’re sure he would be joining right in on all the giggles. But we can see how quickly Laken’s tail was wagging, just how much fun all three of them were having.
