A three-legged dog and a three-legged cat have been adopted together after bonding at the hospital of a Maryland animal rescue.
Blueberry, a 1-year-old French bulldog mix, and Meadow, a 7-month-old black kitten, both arrived at Last Chance Animal Rescue in Waldorf, Md., this winter after experiencing trauma that required leg amputation. One of Blueberry’s front legs was amputated after she was found on the side of the road with punctures and a necrotic leg, while Meadow had one of her hind legs amputated when she arrived at the rescue’s vet hospital with a portion of the leg missing.
“They met while recovering at our vet hospital and quickly became inseparable. Two three-legged survivors learning how to navigate the world again, side by side,” the rescue wrote in a March 3 Facebook post. “Meadow has become our kitty ambassador, offering comfort to dogs healing from surgery. Blueberry found comfort right back in her.”

“Would we love to see them adopted together? Absolutely. But most importantly, we want loving homes where they will continue to thrive,” the post continued.
The rescue got their wish when a couple from Fort Washington, Maryland, stepped up to adopt the pair. Rachel Clarke and her partner, Kevin Tsang, took Blueberry and Meadow home on March 28 after Tsang saw the Facebook post about the animals.
Jamie Bazell, spokeswoman for Last Chance Animal Rescue, told The Washington Post that Clarke and Tsang were a good fit out of the numerous applicants because they were experienced in caring for three-legged animals. In 2023, the duo adopted a cat named Cici, who is missing one of her front legs.
“Fate brought them together, right?” Clarke told The Washington Post. “We don’t want to take them apart.”

Now settling into their new home, Blueberry and Meadow have been sleeping in a guest room while Clarke and Tsang gradually introduce them to their other pets, Cici and Sherlock, both cats.
Blueberry and Meadow play with each other’s toys and lounge together in the sunlight, according to their pet parents.
“They’ve been through so much already,” Tsang told the Post. “But yet they still have so much to offer through their love.”
