Katie Thurston revealed that she has to get a liver biopsy, as doctors are “at a loss” as to why her enzymes are elevated amid her ongoing struggle with stage 4 breast cancer.

“It’s been about a year and a half since being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, and I’ve always wondered when will be the day that I stop talking about it,” the Bachelorette alum, 35, said in a July 13 health update posted to her Instagram. “That day is not today.”

Thurston, who first announced her breast cancer diagnosis in February 2025, went on to share that “three months since my double mastectomy will be the day of my liver biopsy.”Katie Thurston attends the 24th Annual Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards at Perelman Performing Arts Center on April 23, 2026 in New York City.

Her doctors, she said, are looking for the cause of her elevated liver enzymes. “They can’t figure it out. We actually had to pause my cancer meds for an extended period of time hoping that would help. It did not. So, basically, we’re just kind of at a loss. We don’t know.”

In June, she shared that scans showed “no evidence of disease” in her liver, saying at the time, “I can only hope that whatever is possibly left hanging around is stable or shrinking.”

She shared that, as a cancer patient, “you’re just looking for answers,” and because she didn’t have a resolution as to what’s going on with her liver, “I full-on spiraled over the weekend about it.”

“Right about now is probably when I start getting emotional and crying on camera, but I also did start my Wellbutrin journey just about two months ago,” quipped Thurston, who recently shared that she began taking antidepressants, and was looking for a new therapist, as part of a summertime “mental health glow up.”

Still, amid her ongoing health struggle, Thurston remained optimistic: “I’m looking forward to, you know, the future of medicine and the future of no evidence of disease, and, you know, whatever vaccines are coming.”

In the meantime, she shared that she and her husband, comic Jeff Acuri, are working on their home renovation, explaining, “When the time comes, I get to just distract myself with all house stuff, so that’ll be nice.” She also continued to promote his new Netflix special, Nice to Meet You — in which she has a brief, but memorably funny cameo — saying, “If you haven’t watched that, please do.”

“I really look forward to the day I don’t have to update you on my cancer stuff,” Thurston said. “But it is ongoing.” And as she wrote in the caption, “Hopefully [will] get more answers. In the meantime, enjoying life’s moments.”
