Firefighters and rescue crews in Kentucky worked together to safely free the trapped pup and reunite him with his family

Emergency responders in Kentucky recently teamed up to rescue a dog that had been trapped in a storm drain — ultimately helping reunite the missing pet with its family.

The rescue unfolded in London, Ky., after the London-Laurel County 911 Center received a call about a dog stuck inside a storm drain early in the morning.

According to the London-Laurel Rescue Squad, crews were notified of the situation around 8 a.m. and quickly responded to the scene.

“At approximately 8 a.m. this morning, London-Laurel County 911 Center notified units of a dog that was trapped in a storm drain,” the rescue squad shared in a Facebook post.

Responders from the London City Fire Department and the London-Laurel Rescue Squad worked together to safely reach the animal and bring it out of the drain.

Officials said the dog was removed without injury.

The London City Fire Department later shared that the rescue was made possible in part because a local resident spotted the dog and alerted authorities.

“We would also like to thank the citizen who located the dog after it had been missing for several days and called it in,” the department wrote in a Facebook post. “Your quick action helped lead to a successful rescue.”

After being freed, the dog was returned to its family.

“This is a great example of teamwork between our emergency responders and the community to help those in need — even our four-legged friends,” the department added.
