A royal commentator has voiced her concerns about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s future in the US now that President Donald Trump is firmly in the White House, saying “it’s squeaky bum time for the Sussexes.” Trump has been quickly setting the agenda for his presidency just two weeks into his second term, and it is important to note that he previously made some damning statements about the Sussexes.
On the election campaign trail, Trump once reportedly suggested that Harry could be deported from the United States while the Duke of Sussex was in the midst of a controversy over his visa, which allows him to live in California. Harry and Meghan moved to California after leaving the royal family in 2020, and now reside there with their two children.
‘It must be rather awkward having a President of the United States whom Meghan has openly criticized’
After Harry’s admissions of past drug use in his memoir, Spare, a conservative think tank named the Heritage Foundation filed a lawsuit demanding that the US government disclose records related to his visa application. It questioned whether Harry declared his substance history. However, US judge Carl Nichols ruled in September 2024 that the details must not be made public, saying, “The public does not have a strong interest in disclosure of the duke’s immigration records.”
Royal commentator Jennie Bond has now said, according to The Mirror, “It must be rather awkward having a President of the United States whom Meghan has openly criticized and who has the power to throw Harry out of the country if his visa application was proved to be fraudulent.”
“You could say that it’s squeaky bum time for the Sussexes, but the fact is that the most powerful man in the free world probably has more to think about than the residency rights of an estranged Prince of the United Kingdom,” she added.
Back in 2016, Meghan called Trump “divisive” and “misogynistic” on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. However, she cannot be deported as she is a US citizen.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued chilling warning over Trump as visa row continues
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were warned that they are in a “rather awkward” position after Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, as the duke’s visa row continues.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been in an ongoing feud with the new US President since before they moved to the US back in 2020.
Mr Trump, who was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States last month, has previously hinted at dealing with Prince Harry’s visa when he’s in office – after a row sparked following his revelations in his memoir Spare that he has used recreational drugs in the past.
Now royal commentator Jennie Bond claimed that the Sussex couple could be in for a tough time with Mr Trump as President and argued that it is an “awkward” time for them as Meghan has previously opposed him in the past.
She told the Mirror: “It must be rather awkward having a President of the United States whom Meghan has openly criticised and who has the power to throw Harry out of the country if his visa application was proved to be fraudulent.
“You could say that it’s squeaky bum time for the Sussexes, but the fact is that the most powerful man in the free world probably has more to think about than the residency rights of an estranged prince of the United Kingdom.”
The spat between the Sussexes and the Trumps began in 2016 before Meghan married into the Royal Family when she accused the new US president of being “divisive” and “misogynistic” during an interview on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.
In 2019, Mr Trump replied to her comments, telling the Sun before his trip to the UK: “I didn’t know she was nasty.” He attempted to dismiss the comment, despite it having been recorded.
A year later, he hit out at Meghan again, saying: “I’m not a fan of hers. I wish a lot of luck to Harry, he’s going to need it.”
But it was his comments last year that fuelled a row sparked by a think tank regarding the duke’s visa arrangements as he hinted he could intervene when he’s in office if Harry “lied” about taking drugs in the past.
Mr Trump told Nigel Farage on GB News: “We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action.”
Meanwhile, the Heritage Foundation – a conservative Washington DC think tank – has been trying to force the US government to make Harry’s visa application public following the duke’s revelations in his memoir Spare, where he wrote about taking recreational drugs in the past
But US judge Carl Nichols ruled in September that the duke’s visa application should not be made public, saying that “the public does not have a strong interest in disclosure of the duke’s immigration records”.
Elsewhere, Ms Bond claimed that it is highly unlikely Harry will move back to the UK as he and his family, the duchess and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have settled in the US.
She said: “I still think that Harry is intent on carving out a future for himself and his family in California. Once you have children, and they start school, the roots that you have established grow far more quickly.
“It’s harder than ever to up sticks and move away because of the instability that can cause for the family.
“So I think Harry is happy to continue his family life in California but, hopefully, spend more of his time on his charity work into which I think he can pour his heart and soul.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are seemingly not in a good place after reports of an alleged divorce book surfaced in an exposé.
According to a Vanity Fair cover story, the Duchess of Sussex’s team had pitched a book deal to a publishing house about “post-divorce” and it was not about Meghan’s former husband, Trevor Engelson.
The insider alleged that Meghan’s team “had a conversation with a publishing house to gauge interest in the idea for a potential book”.
However, in the same article, another source argued that if the rumour were true, the Duchess “would have been approached and not vice versa.”
While the speculations don’t confirm anything, Meghan is feeling upset knowing the impact the report would have on their image once again.
“Meghan knows that the rumours always make their fans worry about a split, and she doesn’t like that sort of negativity being spread,” a source told OK! Magazine.
The source also dismissed the rumours but noted that Meghan is growing exasperated with the constant speculations over their split.
“Meghan was devastated when she saw all of these reports about a ‘post-divorce’ book coming out,” the insider said. “She knows there’s no truth to them and it’s just upsetting for her to constantly have this negativity around them.”
They continued, “She’s getting really sick and tired of all the split rumours. Everywhere she looks and reads there is something about her and Harry breaking up.”
In the meantime, Meghan has busied herself in her brand launch. She is also occupying her spare time to help the LA wildfire victims as she made several appearances at charities.

President Donald Trump Says He’s ‘Not a Fan’ of Meghan Markle and Wishes Prince Harry ‘Luck’ With Her
President Donald Trump is offering his opinion on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. During a press conference on Wednesday, the politician spoke out about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after they made a video about the importance of voting.
“I’m not a fan of hers… and she probably has heard that,” Trump said of Markle, before adding, “I wish a lot of luck to Harry ’cause he’s gonna need it.”
Trump previously spoke about Markle last year, calling her “nasty” after she blasted him as “divisive” and “misogynistic.”
“She was nasty to me, and that’s OK for her to be nasty,. It’s not good for me to be nasty to her and I wasn’t,” he told Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan. “You know what? She’s doing a good job, I hope she enjoys her life… I think she’s very nice.”
At the time, Trump praised Prince Harry as a “terrific guy.”
“He spent a lot of time talking to [my daughter] Ivanka and talking to my family,” Trump said. “He couldn’t have been nicer… I think he’s great.”
Trump’s most recent comments come after the couple made a video about the importance of voting ahead of the November election, in which the current president will face off against Joe Biden.
“We’re just six weeks out from Election Day, and today is National Voter Registration Day. Every four years, we are told the same thing, that ‘This is the most important election of our lifetime,'” Markle said. “But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter. Because you do. And you deserve to be heard.”
“As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity,” the duke said, with his wife adding, “So as we work to re-imagine the world around us, let’s challenge ourselves to build communities of compassion.”
