A superstar singer’s extended family is navigating another heartbreaking loss. Reba McEntire‘sson, Shelby Blackstock, and his wife, Marissa Blackstock, recently experienced a miscarriage.

The family’s miscarriage comes just months after the death of Brandon Blackstock, McEntire’s former son-in-law and Shelby’s half-brother. In addition, Marissa lost her own father just before learning of her pregnancy.

On December 5, Marissa took to Instagram to share the devastating news. In her caption, she wrote, “I’ve carried more loss this year than I ever imagined I could. First my brother-in-law, then my dad… and now our little boy.”

She continued, “Grief has a way of reshaping your world, and I’ve learned that to survive it, you have to search for even the faintest glimmer of meaning— the small silver thread that helps your heart keep going.”

“Our little boy was that for me,” Marissa added. She explained that she and Shelby rejoiced at the positive pregnancy test on Thanksgivingmorning. Her father had died just the day before.

Marissa noted that she and Shelby had been trying to have a baby for three years. This was the first time she had experienced a positive pregnancy test.

Unfortunately, she lost the pregnancy soon after that positive test. She explained, “Though he began to slip away in the days that followed, and today confirmed what we already knew… he still gave us something precious.”

What that baby gave the couple, Marissa noted, was that he “showed me that my body can do this. That hope isn’t gone.”

She acknowledged that the miscarriage happened early in the pregnancy. Marissa explained she was sharing the news “to acknowledge this for the people who have been excited for us. The ones who’ve followed our journey, our family, our heartbreaks and our hopes.”

“Life happens quietly sometimes, and it’s such a shame we don’t talk about it more,” she added. Despite the pregnancy loss, Marissa wrote that she’s not going to give up on her dream of having a child.

Marissa received a lot of support in the comment section of her Instagram post.

The Young and the Restless star Tracey Bregmanwrote, “I’m so so sorry honey. I’ve walked this road. I know how deep the heartbreak is. I’m sending you so much love.”

A supporter shared, “Your baby boy will always be a part of your story. You are the best mom. Your strength and love for him are so evident. Wrapping you in love—my heart is with you.”
