Christie Garland, a 25-year-old mom of two, tells PEOPLE everyone in her family thought the video was “hilarious”

One Ohio-based mom captured her son’s hilarious reaction to his new little brother.

Christie Garland, a 25-year-old mom of two, was originally trying to record a sweet interaction between her sons Koa, whom she recently welcomed a few weeks ago, and Luca, 23 months. The doting mom says that when she pulled out her phone to record the older sibling, who was hugging and kissing his little brother.

It wasn’t until she saw the video that she noticed her son’s dramatic side eye facial expression. “I watched it back with my husband and parents — who are in the video — and everyone thought it was hilarious,” she tells PEOPLE.

In a TikTok video set to the Game and 50 Cent’s “Hate It or Love It,” Christie poked fun at her son’s facial expression, writing “pov: mom comes home with a new sibling” in text. “he woke up and chose violence #brothers #twoundertwo #newborn #funnyvideos,” she captioned the post.

Since being posted on Dec. 8, the clip has gone viral, amassing over 9 million views and 1.4 million likes.

Despite his dramatic side eye, Christie, who shares her sons with husband Mason Garland, 24, tells PEOPLE that Luca was “so excited” to become a big brother.

“He was so excited! He actually knew I was pregnant before I did, which was so crazy,” she shares. “He came up to my belly one day and kissed it and said, ‘Hi, baby,’ which I laughed off because I thought there was no chance I could be pregnant.”

“Three weeks later I found out he had been right!” Christie adds. “Ever since then he was always kissing my belly and talking and singing to his baby brother.”

The boy mom says that she and her husband were always “speaking positively” with Luca about the prospect of having a brother, which she thinks “helped his excitement.”

“He was so excited from the beginning, and I think us speaking positively about him and his brother and how much fun they’d have together helped his excitement,” she explains. “We also bought him a gift from his baby brother — a Tonie box — which made him so excited, and we felt like it helped him instantly like him.”

Since welcoming Koa into the family, Christie says Luca has defied all preconceived notions about older siblings.

“The funniest thing is you hear so much about older siblings being jealous when a new baby is born — and that is primarily the reason for the humor of the video — but in reality it couldn’t be less true of their relationship,” she tells PEOPLE.

“Luca is obsessed with his brother and is always asking to hold him and kiss him,” Christie says. “He hasn’t shown any real jealousy except the side eye in the video!”
