Jennifer Lopez had some words of wisdom to share with her Las Vegas residency crowd.
During the second night of her Up All Night residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday, Dec. 31, the actress and singer delivered a passionate speech to the crowd about the best advice she received after her divorce from ex-husband Marc Anthony, whom she was married to from 2004 to 2014.

After hugging the 17-year-old twins she shares with Anthony, Max and Emme Muñiz, on stage, Lopez, 56, dressed in a strapless fuchsia gown that was paired with a matching boa, spoke about being in her “happy era” and what she hoped the crowd would take away from her show that night.
In an Instagram Reel of the speech shared on Thursday, Jan. 1, the “Waiting for Tonight” hitmaker recalled a moment from the first night of her residency 10 years prior when her kids were 7 years old.

“After the show they came up to me, and they said, one of them, Max, he came up and said, ‘Mommy, why don’t you ever wear pants on stage?’ And I thought, ‘Jesus Christ, what a crazy life. This is a bizarre life, right?'” she recalled.
Lopez then told her son that it was “because I’m a showgirl and I love to dance.”
“It seemed like a good excuse at the time. He was 7 years old. It was fine, but the truth is, I do, I love to dance,” she said.
Lopez then shared a piece of advice she learned from her third divorce that she hoped the crowd would leave with that night.

“After my third divorce, that’s when I really started getting good at [dancing], okay?” she said, before explaining she was “ready to give up on everything” until a “very wise woman” offered some wisdom.
“My life was a mess,” Lopez recalled. “I was a single mom for the first time with two little 3-year old twins, and then one of my mentors, Louise Hay, said to me, ‘Jennifer, you’re a dancer, right?’ I said, ‘Yes, I am.’
Hay then asked her, “When you’re learning a dance and you get the steps wrong, what do you do?” to which Lopez replied, “I just keep going until I get the steps right.” Hay then told her “that was it.”

“Always keep dancing,” she told Lopez.
The Kiss of the Spider Woman star then imparted that same advice to her audience.
“I wish the same for you. No matter what life throws at you that you dance, and you dance and you dance. Again and again and again. I love you,” she told the crowd, before launching into her 2012 hit “Dance Again” featuring Pitbull.
“HAPPY NEW YEAR live from Las Vegas! 💫 ✨,” Lopez captioned the Instagram Reel.

Lopez’s third and longest marriage was to Anthony from 2004 to 2014. During that time, they welcomed twins Max and Emme.
She had been previously married to model-waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003.

The Hustlers actress was most recently married to her longtime love Ben Affleck for two years before she filed for divorce in August 2024.
A source recently told PEOPLE that Lopez is not dating and is focused on work and raising her family nearly a year after she finalized her divorce from Affleck, 53.
“It’s all about work and the kids for her,” the source said at the time. “She seems happy and content.”
Jennifer Lopez responds to criticism surrounding her choice of clothing
During the opening night of her Las Vegas residency, Up All Night: Live in Las Vegas on Tuesday, the actress and singer dismissed suggestions that she doesn’t dress appropriately for her age.
“It is funny, I do laugh at some of the things sometimes, but they do say funny things, too,” Lopez said of her critics at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
The 56-year-old went on to explain that she is often criticised for smiling with her mouth open.
“One of the things is, ‘Why when she does pictures does she always smile with her mouth open?'” she said. “‘Why she always do that? Why she smile when she takes pictures like that? Why does she always dress that way? Why don’t she dress her age?’ I was like, ‘Huh?'”

Elsewhere in the show, JLO poked fun at her love life while reflecting on her first ever Las Vegas residency, which ran from 2016 to 2018.
“That went by in a blink didn’t it? For those of you who were there on opening night 10 years ago,” she stated. “At that time, I had only been married twice.”
“That’s not true. It was only once. Felt like twice,” she quipped. “I’m just kidding.”
Lopez went on to assure fans that she is now in her “happy era”.
“It’s over and we just, boom, and it’s fine. It’s all good,” she told the audience. “The good news is that I’m learning and I’m growing. We’re in our happy era right now.”
The Wedding Planner actress was previously married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014, and Ben Affleck from 2022 to 2025.
A Closer Look at Jennifer Lopez’s Las Vegas Residency Costumes: Lingerie Inspiration, a Take on Tuxedos and More
Jennifer Lopez’s “Up All Night” Las Vegas residency officially kicked off on Tuesday, featuring the “Kiss of the Spider Woman” star performing her biggest hits at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace through March.
Lopez’s residency not only includes the singer performing live renditions of her most famous songs, but also a string of costumes that elevate her eclectic style. Merging Las Vegas glamour and sparkle with Lopez’s penchant for formfitting silhouettes and garments that move with her on stage, Lopez’s longtime styling team Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn curated Lopez’s Las Vegas residency wardrobe with dynamic colors and flair.
Among the highlights from her Las Vegas residency premiere performance, Lopez wore a purple, formfitting gown with a plunging neckline and coordinated opera gloves. The dress was completely embellished with shimmering sequins, adding a touch of Las Vegas sparkle to her look.
Also during her performance, Lopez turned to lingerie inspiration, wearing a baby pink lacy one-piece body suit with sheer paneling at the waist and delicately embroidered bustline. The look was paired with a set of lace-up shoes, adding a stark visual contrast.
Channeling the showmanship of the Las Vegas strip, Lopez also turned out her take on the classic tuxedo. A menswear staple, Lopez’s version featured a long-sleeve bodysuit with a white dress shirt element and bold red rosette appliqué.
Sparkling silver gemstones encrusted the entirety of the bodysuit, and the look was paired with a shimmering top hat to boot. As for glam during the show, Lopez wore her hair down in natural waves and her makeup featured her go-to nude lip with bold eyes.
Lopez’s “Up All Night” residency marks the singer’s second stint on the Las Vegas strip — she previously performed a 120-show $100 million-grossing residency, “All I Have,” back in 2018. The performance consists for four acts and features Lopez’s hits along with renditions of Broadway songs, including selections from “West Side Story” to “Let Me Entertain You” from “Gypsy.”
