Helpless dog is drowning in swimming pool – then camera catches heroic rescuer

Dogs are often referred to as ‘man’s best friend’, and for good reason. Our four-legged friends are fiercely loyal, selflessly giving and, more often than not, eager to please humans. Of course, such traits can sometimes extend to other dogs as well.

That’s what Laurie found out when her dog, Smokey, fell into the family pool and was unable to get out.

Nobody knew there was a hero lurking nearby… a hero in the form of another canine.

Saviours come in all shapes and sizes. In the end, what matters is courage of the heart, not necessarily physical strength or prowess. It’s something Laurie knows all too well.

Her dog Smokey had his friend Remus over to visit. But when Laurie went into the house for a few moments, the day’s playtime would turn into an entirely different – and significantly more serious – matter.

Falling in

Smokey isn’t a strong swimmer, and the two dogs were playing by the pool.

Suddenly Smokey slipped in at the deep end and, unable to get himself out, the situation quickly became dire.

But Remus is a quick thinker, and realised the danger. He darted to the edge of the pool and tried to get his friend out of the water. Unfortunately, nothing worked.

That’s when he made a bold decision.

Remus jumps in

Remus jumped into the pool and swam over to the distressed Smokey. He swam round to the back of his friend and started to push him towards the edge.

After a few seconds of struggling, Smokey was able to get out onto land once again.

The whole event was captured by Laurie’s surveillance camera, and so Remus became the hero of the day.

“When we saw the footage we were amazed and our hearts filled with joy. My best friend (Remus’ owner) cried when we sent her the video. She says he’s a certified lifeguard now,” she told The Dodo.

In the video below, you can see how Remus helps his friend Smokey from the pool. He deserves to be celebrated for his decisive and brave actions.

So Remus and Smokey got a little rambunctious. Smokey can swim just not well ( as video shows ) watch video all the way to end.Jay recorded this off our security camera when he saw Smokey all wet ! As a devoted pet parent, leaving my furry baby at the vet for her checkup always feels like a part of me is missing. I find myself counting down the hours until I can have my sweet girl back in my arms again. Vet visits can be really scary for our furry friends, especially when their appointment is longer. We humans need to prioritize picking them up as soon as possible.

I thought every pet parent felt this way, but then I came across a story about a puppy who ended up staying at the vet longer than it should.

When Dominique Humphries took to TikTok to post a video about an owner who brought their puppy in for an appointment and never came back to pick them up, the internet was left heartbroken.

Humphries stated that she made multiple attempts to contact the owner of the Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix, and every time she would get a hold of them, they would tell her that they were on their way. When nobody came to pick up this sweet boy, the veterinary assistant from Atlanta, Georgia, was left puzzled as to why somebody would do such a thing.

“The owner didn’t want to pick up the dog because they were scared of losing him to a health issue, even though the doctor told them before that the dog was fine. They just got up and left the dog in the exam room, and we didn’t hear from them until the next day,” Humphries told Newsweek.

She also said that the pup was super friendly and loved playing along with humans. That is why the Atlanta vet office made sure to give him as much playtime as possible, even spending their lunchtime with him. The video that Humphries posted gained a lot of attention and quickly became viral, with countless people expressing their concern about this adorable two-month-old puppy.

Three days later, the owner finally came to collect their pup. Unfortunately, since she was working on another pup, Humphries wasn’t able to confront them.

“They came to get the dog on the third day of it being at my clinic, which definitely made me sad because I feel like the patient deserves a better home. I have not heard from the owner since, and I’m fearful but also don’t want to know if something happened to the dog,” Humphries said.

Even though many of the commentators stated that the pup should not be with such a neglectful owner, Humphries was indeed bound by the veterinary protocol, which demanded that she take care of the pup until its owner picked it up.

“I wish there was more that I could’ve done for him, but I have to follow protocols from the hospital. I hope he’s doing great, but if I do have an update later on, I will keep everyone posted,” she concluded.

The biggest takeaway from this story is that veterinary clinics aren’t doggy daycares! It is important to remember that our dedicated vets have the hard and sometimes stressful task of keeping our furry babies happy and healthy, and it is our job to make it as easy for them as possible.

So, please, when the next vet appointment rolls around, make sure that you not only clean and feed your pups but that you are also on time for both check-in and pick-up!

Animal Control Finds A Missing Dog, But The Family Refuses To Claim Him

Animal Control Finds A Missing Dog, But The Family Refuses To Claim Him

Throughout many dog stories we have witnessed over the years, this one was probably one of the hardest ones.

A dog “knocked” on the door of a shelter, thinking it would only be temporary until its family showed up, but that’s not how destiny wanted it.

Instead of going home as a successful “lost and found” doggo, Lindsy, the Pittie girl, was about to embark on what was the longest, most exhaustive, journey of her life!

Lindsy was found in 2016 by animal control as a lost dog, and she was immediately taken to Babylon Animal Shelter, in New York. At that point of her life, she was already 6 years old and was a long-time family dog.

It took only a few weeks for her family to reach out. A child called the BAS, claiming this Pittie mix, and said that “she’d have to ask her father if they could get her,” according to Kristin Siarkowicz, a BAS staff member.

Sadly, days passed, and then weeks… and then months, but the family never showed up on the doorstep of this shelter. They didn’t even call back to explain why they were not picking up their family dog.

It was just that one phone call that day, and that was about it!

It was perfectly clear that Lindsy was abandoned, but the shelter staff didn’t despair. Lindsy was such a pawesome girl with an amazing personality, and they weren’t worried about her finding a new home in a heartbeat.

A Great Personality – Still, No Applications

There are very few doggos in this world that could stand in Lindsy’s shoes, that’s for sure! Aside from being extremely friendly and gentle, Lindsy’s just the cuddliest, most affectionate creature ever!

“Lindsy wants to be with you, she wants to be where you are, and she wants to participate in what you are doing,” the BAS staff wrote on their Facebook.

“Lindsy would make a great forever friend for someone who wants to go on leisurely walks and have a companion to sit and watch TV with. A low maintenance kind of dog is what Lindsy is, and she would love to have a new place to call home.”

Still, there were no applications nor people who’d show interest in adopting this beautiful girl. Whether it was her breed that was widely misunderstood or her age (she was entering her senior years) – the staff just couldn’t tell!

Day after day, Lindsy was still waiting in her kennel, never losing hope!

The Long-Awaited Miracle After Almost 3 Years

It was March 2019, and just a couple of months short of 3 years when her long-awaited miracle happened!

“It has finally happened….. Lindsy has left the building,” the BAS wrote in their Facebook post.

The adopters showed up, but before she actually went to a furever home, Noel’s Dream Bully Rescue, from Waltham, Massachusetts, stepped in to help Lindsy and welcome her into their program.

She was admitted into the program as one of the longest BAS residents to decompress from shelter life and acclimate to home life again – and needless to say, she did it amazingly!

“Lindsy has already enjoyed peanut butter, soft serve ice cream, walks, a sweater, and lots and lots of hugs, kisses, and snuggles,” the BAS team reported.

Eventually, she finally made it to her forever home, and she can’t be happier. Even though she’s now a senior, she has never lost her enthusiasm and her tail-wagging, cheerful personality.

BAS posted the last photo of her in December 2019, and it shows Lindsy taking a nap under a cozy blanket on a Christmas morning. “Who remembers Lindsy? We got this great photo of Lindsy on Christmas morning. What a life,” BAS wrote.

It was one heck of a ride, but in the end, she made it where she was headed all along – to a loving home among the people who’ll love her for who she is!
