The Substances Kate Is Reportedly Banned from Consuming Revealed as She Gives Emotional Update on Her Cancer Side Effects

The Substances Kate Is Reportedly Banned from Consuming Revealed as She Gives Emotional Update on Her Cancer Side Effects

In early 2024, the Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) underwent major abdominal surgery in London.

While initial tests indicated no malignancy, subsequent post-operative findings revealed the presence of cancer, leading her to begin preventative chemotherapy in late February 2024. Following a brief period of privacy, the Princess publicly disclosed her diagnosis in March 2024, drawing widespread global support. By September of that year, she announced the completion of her chemotherapy course. In early 2025, Princess Kate confirmed that her cancer was in full remission. Today, she has made a remarkable physical recovery, actively returning to her royal duties and undertaking grueling physical endurance challenges to raise funds for cancer charities.

Life after cancer is an adjustment. A lot of changes have to be made after receiving treatment, and recovery is as much an adjustment as it is about figuring out what works for you specifically. Now, Kate Middleton is talking about her cancer journey and revealing what she can and cannot do since battling cancer.

According to RadarOnline, Middleton’s diet is carefully managed. A source said, “There’s a common misconception that royal eating habits are driven by extravagance or outdated palace traditions, but the reality is far more grounded. For Catherine, most of these dietary rules are about practicality rather than privilege. Her schedule is packed with engagements, public appearances, international tours and meetings, so maintaining her health is absolutely essential.

The rules reportedly indicate shellfish is avoided, as is raw or rare meat. Garlic and raw onions are largely absent from her diet, as is foie gras, which was removed from royal menus because of concerns about animal welfare. Spicy foods are often avoided during royal tours, though the rules are more relaxed when Middleton is eating at home.

Middleton also reportedly avoids drinking tap water when travelling overseas because of concerns over bacteria, contaminants or unfamiliar mineral content.

“Many of the foods she avoids are not forbidden because she dislikes them, but because they present unnecessary risks. Whether it’s steering clear of shellfish while overseas, avoiding ingredients that could cause discomfort before a major event, or following long-established royal travel precautions, these habits have become deeply ingrained over the years,” the source added.

“At this point, it’s second nature to her. She doesn’t see them as restrictions. They’re simply sensible routines that help her manage an incredibly demanding public role while protecting both her health and her ability to represent the Royal Family effectively.”

Recently, the princess made a post on her Instagram about completing the National Three Peaks Challenge, becoming the first royal to do so.

“Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one wants to hear,” Middleton said on a June 28 Instagram post. “What follows is a path that tests every part of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. The challenges ripple outwards, touching families, friendships, work and the quiet moments we spend alone with our thoughts.”

She added, “Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life. I know this personally, and that the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone.”

The Princess of Wales revealed her diagnosis in February 2024 and underwent a preventative round of chemotherapy treatment before revealing she was in remission in January 2025.

“I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back,” Kate added. “The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life changing for so many people.”

“Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare,” she wrote. “Every individual is different, and ensuring there is a whole person approach to care enables those living through cancer to manage the deeply personal challenge of diagnosis. Holistic therapies complement clinical pathways and support patients’ ability to maintain their wellbeing, resilience and quality of life during an exceptionally difficult time.”

Kate continued, “We have an opportunity to reshape what the future of holistic cancer care looks like, enabling more people, nationwide, to access the kind of personalised support that can help make a meaningful difference during and after medical treatment.”

Kate, Princess of Wales, climbs Britain’s three highest peaks in 24 hours to raise money for cancer hospital

London — Catherine, Princess of Wales, completed Britain’s arduous Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend to support the hospital where she underwent cancer treatment two years ago.
She said she undertook the endurance challenge – which involves summitting the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours – to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a specialist cancer center in Chelsea, west London.

“Lots of people have asked me why I’m doing this challenge,” she said in a video message, posted on Sunday. “Partly it’s personal – I’m so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills.”

“But, more importantly, it’s to give something back and acknowledge all the incredible work going on up and down this country.”

Kate, 44, announced her cancer diagnosis and that she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment in March 2024, two months after she had major abdominal surgery. Almost a year later, she shared that she was in remission.

Since then, she has slowly returned to royal duties. She has become deeply involved in promoting the work of the Royal Marsden, and sought to support people living with cancer. Last year, Kensington Palace announced that she had been named the joint patron of the cancer charity alongside her husband, Prince William.

“I’ve met some incredible people, those people who are living with and beyond cancer,” she said. “And I know personally how difficult that journey is, and I really wanted to use this opportunity as my way of contributing to all the wonderful work that’s going on.”

Kate undertook the Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing a total of 3,064 meters (10,052 feet), alone and was greeted afterward by William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as her parents and brother, Michael, Carole and James Middleton.

By completing a challenge like this, she hoped to “explore life beyond a diagnosis,” since cancer “changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life,” she said in a statement released by Kensington Palace.

And because of such all-encompassing effects, Kate has championed “holistic care” which supports a patient’s mental, social and spiritual, as well as physical, wellbeing.

Alongside her statement, Kate released a fundraising link for the public to donate to the Royal Marsden.

Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth Olsen come from a big family

The Olsen Family support Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen as they are Honored with a Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.

NEED TO KNOW

  • Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth Olsen are also siblings to Trent, Jake and Courtney Olsen
  • Trent, Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth were born to Jarnette and David Olsen, while Courtney and Jake were welcomed by David and his second wife, McKenzie
  • The family came together in June 2026 to celebrate Trent’s wedding

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen hadn’t even celebrated their first birthdays when they first starred as Michelle Tanner in Full House. But while they and their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, might be the most famous members of their family, they also have three other siblings.

The fraternal twins were born to parents Jarnette and David Olsen in Sherman Oaks, Calif., in 1986, joining older brother Trent. Their family expanded in 1989 when Elizabeth was born. Jarnette and David divorced in 1996, and David went on to welcome two more children — Courtney and Jake — with his second wife, McKenzie.

Though Mary-Kate and Ashley haven’t said much publicly about their siblings, they’ve made their love for them clear in little ways. In fact, the twins even named their lifestyle brand, Elizabeth and James, after their brother and sister.

“I always felt that having older twin sisters was an advantage,” Elizabeth told Harper’s Bazaar UK in May 2022. “I felt very clear about how I was going to navigate lots of things because of watching them. I also felt very protected.”

While Mary-Kate and Ashley don’t often make public appearances, they attended Trent’s wedding in May 2026 and posed for family photos, which were later shared on social media.

Here’s everything to know about the six Olsen siblings.

Trent is the oldest of the Olsen siblings and was born on May 6, 1984, in Sherman Oaks. Though he goes by his middle name, his actual first name is James, which serves as one-half of the inspiration behind Mary-Kate and Ashley’s Elizabeth and James brand.

As a child, Trent appeared in several of his twin sisters’ videos, including You’re Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Sleepover Party and Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen: Our First Video. According to a 2014 profile in the New York Post, he and his sisters attended Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles, and he went on to graduate from the University of Southern California.

In 2014, Trent was working at Storm King Productions, which was founded by John Carpenter and his wife Sandy King. From 2014 to 2016, he also authored several comics.

In February 2023, Trent shared a sweet Instagram post detailing how he reconnected with an old friend named Alexis, and the two had started dating.

“I love you and look forward to seeing what all the next phases have in store… including my nerd s— that’s definitely starting to rub off on you,” he wrote.

In July 2024, Trent shared on Instagram that he and Alexis — his “other half” — had gotten engaged, and when the couple tied the knot in May 2026, all of his siblings, including Mary-Kate and Ashley, were there to celebrate with them.

The following month, Trent and his new wife shared a family photo taken at their wedding on Instagram that included a rare peek at all of the Olsen siblings posing together.

Fraternal twins Mary-Kate and Ashley were born on June 13, 1986. As infants, the twins made their acting debut as Michelle Tanner on Full House, which premiered in 1987 and ran until 1995. They took turns playing the youngest Tanner sibling; as the twins’ acting coach, Adria Later, explained to The Washington Post in February 1991, Ashley excelled in scenes with heavy dialogue, while Mary-Kate (whom she described as “a bit more shy”) thrived in shots with more action.

Through their Dualstar Entertainment Group, the siblings produced their own programming, such as the Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley series and direct-to-video movies like Passport to Paris and Billboard Dad.

The actresses also starred in two feature films, It Takes Two (1995) and New York Minute (2004), and another ABC sitcom, Two of a Kind, which ran for one season in 1998.

The twins also showed an interest in fashion at an early age, and in 1999, they launched a hugely successful girls’ clothing line with Walmart. In 2005, Mary-Kate and Ashley started a luxury clothing line called The Row, for which they’ve received several CFDA Fashion Awards.

In 2004, Ashley had her last starring role before stepping back from acting to focus on business endeavors. Mary-Kate took on some solo acting jobs before leaving the business in 2012.

Mary-Kate began dating French banker Olivier Sarkozy, whose half-brother is former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, in 2012, and the pair married in 2015. Five years later, Mary-Kate filed for divorce from Sarkozy and they reached a settlement agreement in 2021.

Meanwhile, Ashley has been linked to artist Louis Eisner since 2017. The couple married in a private ceremony in December 2022, PEOPLE confirmed at the time. In August 2023, news broke that Ashley and Louis had welcomed their first baby together, a son named Otto.

Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth was born on Feb. 16, 1989, in Sherman Oaks and got an early start in acting like her sisters. As a child, she starred in a few of their projects, including the 1994 TV movie How the West Was Fun and the straight-to-video series The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley.

While an undergraduate student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Elizabeth landed a series of roles in independent films, most notably the 2011 psychological drama Martha Marcy May Marlene. After making her Marvel debut as Wanda Maximoff in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Elizabeth quickly rose to fame and achieved mainstream success. In 2021, she starred in the Disney+ series WandaVision, a show based on the star’s MCU character. Most recently, she starred in 2025’s Eternity alongside Miles Teller and Callum Turner.

In an October 2011 interview with The New York Times, Elizabeth explained how she didn’t fully grasp the depth of her sisters’ careers as a child.

“All of our family vacations were somehow involved or tied to my sisters’ working,” she said. “It wasn’t until really a few years ago that I realized how hard that must have been for them. I just thought it was a fun vacation, but they were working every day, whether it was a cruise or a trip to Canada or whatever.”

Elizabeth has also addressed claims of nepotism over the years. In fact, she told Glamour UK in April 2021 that she even considered dropping her last name when she entered the industry.

“During that time, I thought, ‘I don’t want to be associated with [Mary-Kate and Ashley],’ for some reason,” she explained. “I guess I understood what nepotism was like inherently as a 10-year-old.”

However, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s guidance proved invaluable to the young actress when she was starting out. The best advice they ever gave her? “‘No’ is a full sentence.”

After breaking off her engagement to Narcos star Boyd Holbrook in 2014, Elizabeth began dating musician Robbie Arnett. The pair made their relationship public in 2017, and after three years of dating, the actress and musician got engaged in 2019.

In 2022, Elizabeth confirmed that she and Arnett had secretly eloped. Speaking on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, she said, “It was before COVID. I just never talked about it.”

Elizabeth and Arnett are currently expecting their first baby. In June 2026, the mom-to-be was spotted with a baby bump while out to lunch in Los Angeles.

Courtney Taylor Olsen

The first child of David and his second wife McKenzie, Courtney was born on May 10, 1997. Over the years, she’s been highly supportive of her famous siblings’ careers.

“Just admiring my badass of a sister,” she captioned an April 2018 Instagram photo in which she’s standing next to a poster for Avengers: Infinity War.

In May 2022, Courtney attended the premiere of her sister Elizabeth’s movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She shared snaps from the evening on Instagram with her partner and brother Jake. “Big Wanda fans over here,” she captioned the post.

Since then, Courtney has begun making her way into the industry, too. In August 2024, she shared on Instagram that she had worked on a short film and attended the LA Shorts International Film Festival.

As for her personal life, she got engaged to her partner in May 2025, as she shared on Instagram.

Jake Olsen

Born in 1998, Jake is the youngest of the Olsen siblings and the second child of David and McKenzie.

In 2016, Jake had a brief stint as a model, posing for a photo shoot for Runway magazine. In the accompanying interview, he briefly discussed what it was like growing up as one of six siblings.

“Growing up in our house was always interesting … there was a lot going on!” he said. “I learned about respect from everyone in my family. In a family of six kids, you learn it’s not always about you.”

Jake added: “I love every chaotic moment I have when my family is all together. It’s a lot more normal than you would think … We all support each other’s dreams.”

In December 2016, he shared a photo with Elizabeth and wrote, “I love family time with my sister.”

Jake’s Instagram suggests that he’s currently working in the entertainment industry. In 2022, he assistant directed and acted in a music video, and in 2023, he appeared in an ad for Driply Coffee.
