Bruce Willis made his first public appearance since his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis to thank the first responders continuing to battle the L.A. wildfires.
In an Instagram post shared by his wife Emma Heming Willis on Thursday, Willis can be seen shaking hands with a Los Angeles police officer and posing for a photo. Heming Willis set the black and white video to the Led Zeppelin song “Going to California.”
“Spotting a first responder, Bruce never missed a chance to show his gratitude with a heartfelt handshake and a ‘thank you for your service.’ Yesterday was no different,” she wrote in the caption.
The video seemingly marks the first time Willis has been spotted in public since 2022, after his family announced that the actor had initially been diagnosed with the language disorder aphasia and would be stepping away from acting as a result. In 2023, the Willis family shared that Bruce had received a more specific diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, FTD is caused by “a group of disorders that gradually damage the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes. These damages cause changes in thinking and behaviors. Symptoms can include unusual behaviors, emotional problems, trouble communicating, challenges with work, and difficulty with walking.” The condition has no cure.
Since his diagnosis, Heming Willis has served as the actor’s caregiver.
“While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” read a statement released by Willis’ family at the time. “FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead. As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.”
While appearing on NBC’s Today show in 2023, Heming Willis admitted that it was “hard to know” whether the actor understood his diagnosis.
“It’s hard on the person diagnosed, it’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce, or myself, or our girls. When they say this is a family disease, it really is,” she said at the time.
Bruce Willis’ Wife Admits She Feels ‘Anger and Grief’ Amid His Health Struggles
Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, is getting candid about the actor’s health condition.
On Sunday, December 29, Emma, 46, took to Instagram to post a tribute to the 69-year-old in honor of the couple’s 17th wedding anniversary. The Die Hard actor is battling frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which can cause the lobes in the brain to shrink, affecting behavior, language, and more, according to Mayo Clinic.
Emma posted a throwback photo of her and the Golden Globe Award winner smiling in the ocean together in front of a sunset. She tagged the location as Parrot Cay, Turks And Caicos Islands, the destination where the couple tied the knot in 2009.
In her caption, Emma detailed how distraught she is over her hubby’s health condition and how she holds space for herself to let her emotions out.
“17 years of us ❤️ Anniversaries used to bring excitement — now, if I’m honest, they stir up all the feelings, leaving a heaviness in my heart and a pit in my stomach,” she confessed. “I give myself 30 minutes to sit in the ‘why him, why us,’ to feel the anger and grief.”
Despite the hardships of the Pulp Fiction actor’s illness, Emma explained she is grateful for his love.
“Then I shake it off and return to what is. And what is… is unconditional love. I feel blessed to know it, and it’s because of him. I’d do it all over again and again in a heartbeat 💞,” she wrote.
Fans took to the comment section to express their well-wishes and support for Emma, who shares daughters Evelyn, 10, and Mabel, 12 with the two-time Emmy Award Winner.
“Even if he doesn’t say it or even if he doesn’t remember how to show it I’m sure he Love’s you so very much ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️He’s Blessed to have you by his side @emmahemingwillis,” one fan wrote.
A second person commented, “This picture embodies true love ❤️ Your devotion through the “worse” of your vows, Emma, is a beautiful reminder of what love truly is!”
“His true love ❤️❤️ he will always have that,” somebody else commented.
Bruce is also a dad to adult daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30, whom he had with ex-wife Demi Moore.
Bruce Willis steps out in rare outing amid LA wildfires
Bruce Willis was seen on an outing after he met with LAPD officers a few days ago
Bruce Willis was just seen on a rare outing.
Amid the ongoing LA wildfires, days after he was filmed by his wife, Emma Heming, warmly greeting and shaking hands with LAPD officers, Willis was seen riding in the passenger seat of a black-coloured vehicle.
As he cruised through Studio City, it is pertinent to mention that he did appear to look a little somber in the daytime outing as he valiantly battles aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), as per Daily Mail.
This comes after he broke silence over his stance on the LA wildfires, seen in the video uploaded previously.
The aforementioned video then followed a rather touching moment that the Die Hard star shared with his daughter, Scout Willis in a sentimental holiday family video.
Willis wore a warm cardigan sweater and navy pants with his arms wrapped around Scout as they stood together in a garden. Some more posts featured snaps of a holiday celebration featuring her mom and Willis’ ex-wife, Demi Moore.
Demi, who was married to Bruce from 1987 to 2000, gave CNN an emotional update on her ex-husband’s health, saying, “I’ve shared this before, but I really mean this so sincerely. It’s so important for anybody who’s dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at, and from that place, there is such love and joy.”
